thank you so much for your timeHead gasket replacement?
If you have an OHC, make sure you get the cam and crank lined up when you put it back together. If you have a rocker arm assembly on top of the head. make sure your push rods are straight. Replace them as a set if you need to. Drain your fluids (oil and water) and disconnect the battery before you start and DO NOT, under any circumstances, turn the engine over when you have it apart.
The best manual is at the dealer. Haynes is really a hit and miss thing.
I wouldn't even need an entire manual for that job. Just torque specs, the torque sequence. If you have a mechanic as a friend they are probably the same way.
Depending on what engine this is you may need to replace the head bolts as well when doing this job. The machine shop will know.
Also have a machine shop check to see that the head is not warped.
If it is warped find a shop that can straighten it versus just surface it. I am not sure exactly what engine you are talking about as there are more than one type of 2.2L 4 cylinder, but many of them are overhead cam. Like the Mazda 2.2 dual over head cam. You want to avoid resurfacing because it will affect valve timing which can really decrease performance. If they have to straighten it you should also have the valves reground.
Don't use a cheap 'click' type torque wrench. Buy or borrow a good name brand 'click' type or if your on a tight budget go buy one of the bar/needle type. The cheap 'click' type can yield disastrous results.
If your not one to remember where all the hoses went. Take pictures before you take it apart. You can also use tape and a marker to label things. Like put a "1" on the hose and a "1" on the fitting it goes on... etc...
Check the timing marks BEFORE your put the head back on. If this is an interference engine you can damage the valves if you put it on with the valve timing incorrect.Head gasket replacement?
Hey Slim...
I too have the 4 Cyl 2.2L non V-tec engine in my Accord. I have read that section on doing the head gasket over %26amp; over in the Haynes manual (partially because I know sometime I will have to do it).
So yeah, the Haynes manual will tell you exactly how to get it done. You should plan for about 4 hours (giving yourself enough time to make 2 - 3 small mistakes, get frustrated, cool down and then think your way through it.....) and have lots of engine degreaser and WD40 handy.
The engine does not have to come off, in fact it's better if it stays on (since the head gasket is easier to reach from the top side). The only thing you really have to watch for is when you are replacing the spark plug cylinders. If you tighten those too much, (or the bolts holding the oil pan) you will cause damage to them and to your engine next time you start it up. If you have a buddy who has done spark plug changeouts before, bring him/them along (better safety factor too!) Pay him some beer and a steak on the bbq, that always works for mine!
To be honest, if the head gasket blew on the engine, your best bet, is to pull the engine, and rebuild it. ***Something*** caused that gasket to blow, could be a warped head/cracked/etc, same goes with the block. BOTH the block, **AND** the head, need to be checked for warpage. Either, or both can be warped. If you dont bother to check both, you run a good chance of just wasting your time, and money. Get a book called "how to rebuild your ??? engine", they are very good for beginners, it will go over removal/teardown, and items to watch, ive done several small block chevy's and a couple of ford 302's. When a engine gets enough miles/problems to blow a head gasket, you can bet your money, that something else is wrong also. Rebuilding a engine yourself, is not as expensive as you would think. Keep everything spotlessly clean, check clearances, torque, and take your time.Head gasket replacement?
And air compressor and impact gun come in really handy when it comes time to take off the head. You can do it with the engine in the car. A pro can do it in about a day, you might need all week. Don't forget to send the head out to a machine shop

Swapping whole engine vs swapping cylinder heads?
which one is quicker to do? I want to do these my self with a haynes repair manual. I'm thinking of buying cars that need fixing and selling them for a profit. which one would be quicker and or cheaper to do? swapping heads or the entire engine? thanksSwapping whole engine vs swapping cylinder heads?
Depending on what you are working on gasket sets can be very expensive, also some heads can be difficult to get at with the engine still installed.Swapping whole engine vs swapping cylinder heads?
Swapping heads won't fix engine problems in the crankcase (worn bearings, bad piston rings, etc). Each year, make and model of car has its own idiosyncrasies that make it tough to give you a good number to work with. One may be easier to swap the engine, while another may be easier to swap the heads. If you are doing it to make it look like the engine was overhauled, you'll earn a bad reputation problem you'll never recover from.
Changing heads or the entire engine can both be difficult on new cars. There's a lot of stuff that has to be removed just to get to the engine itself. I would buy cars that are already in good condition that just need cosmetic work - touch up paint, tune up and a general cleaning.
Also, depending upon where you live, selling more than 3 to 5 cars a year requires a dealer's license. Remember, your name will appear on the title documents and that's how they will know you are a dealer.Swapping whole engine vs swapping cylinder heads?
It depends on the year, make, model, engine option, and other drive option like AWD, 4x4 and such. Also depends on why you think the head has to be swapped. IMHO its pretty darn rare that the head is going to be the only issue with an engine. Pulling the motor and getting it in a stand will make it much easier to inspect it to decide if it needs more than just a head. If it does just need a head you can then replace the head clean it up nice and throw it back in knowing that you had a good look at everything else and its all good. If you find more issues you can address those issues (like leaky gaskets) while its out and then know you are putting in a good motor. If the motor needs a ton of work you can just junk it and go get another one, you have not lost anything.
The best and easiest thing to do is sell cars that do not require repair. You're going to get eaten up by labor and parts costs. If you are going to take the engine out, it might not be a bad time to replace the heads, but I have done all these things over many years and it kicks ***. Best to deal with cars that run well already.

How do I do my own 30,000 transmission service on a 2004 Sebring Convertible? Or should I pay a shop?
Neither Chilton nor Haynes has published a repair manual for this vehicle. That stinks since I am mechanically challenged, and without the book, I'm scared to touch anything. How do I do my own 30,000 transmission service on a 2004 Sebring Convertible? Or should I pay a shop?
You can do it yourself, which I don't recommend, by dropping the pan and draining whatever fluid is there and replacing the filter. However, the problem with this is the pan only holds so many pints of fluid and the rest is in the transmission. So basically, you are only partially servicing the tranny by adding new fluid to old fluid. A pro shop that does tranny flushes will flush out ALL of the old fluid and replace with new fluid. It really doesn't cost that much either. Maybe $50 to $100 or so. Shop around. How do I do my own 30,000 transmission service on a 2004 Sebring Convertible? Or should I pay a shop?
You need to take it to a shop that does the power flush. If you just drain the fluid you will not get the fluid in the torque converter.
A shop with the power flush equipment will take out all the old fluid and you can see this for yourself when the fluid starts coming out clear. I think I paid about a 100 bucks on my last one.How do I do my own 30,000 transmission service on a 2004 Sebring Convertible? Or should I pay a shop?
transmissions have a drain plug just like the engine oil pan or just a couple of bolts to loosen. Just get her up on blocks and crawl under the transmission and you will find it!
Good Luck!
fordman covered most of it. but you should change the transmission filter first and then have the fluid replaced as fordman said. the filter is something you could tackle yourself if you have some mechanical experience. if you dont feel comfortable doing it then dont. make sure you have it done regularly per the manufacturers reccomendation

What would cause 1991 Volvo fuel pump to make a buzzing sound that cuts on & off like Morse Code?
The fuse box refers to it as the fuel pump that feeds the fuel injectors, the Haynes Manual refers to it as the main fuel pump. Is this outside pump being overworked due to a failed in-tank pump causing outside pump to make buzzing sound?Haynes Repair Manual makes some referance to this posability along with 1000 other posibilities. No Volvo mechanics in my area. Anyone know what can cause this buzzing sound or where I should start at diagnosing the problem? What would cause 1991 Volvo fuel pump to make a buzzing sound that cuts on %26amp; off like Morse Code?

Help! Can't find the oil sending unit (oil pressure switch) in my 01 Chevy Cavalier?
Help! Can't find the oil sending unit (oil pressure switch) in my 01 Chevy Cavalier?
I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier (2.2L). Recently my oil light has been coming on when the car comes to a stop, then goes off when I press the gas and accelerate. I have been told the issue is most likely the oil sending unit....but....I can't find it for the life of me. I have a Haynes repair manual but the only mentioning of it is when the engine is out of the car,the engine is in an overhaul and therefor the OSU is not obstructed by anything.
1) Is there an easier way to access to oil sending unit so it can be replaced? 2) Also what is the best wrench for the job?
Any sincere help will be greatly appreciated!!!Help! Can't find the oil sending unit (oil pressure switch) in my 01 Chevy Cavalier?
look on the side of the oil filter for a small plug with two wires coming out of it that should be your OPSHelp! Can't find the oil sending unit (oil pressure switch) in my 01 Chevy Cavalier?
On that motor it is usually near the oil filter. There is a special socket however an oversized cresent wrench can usually get it off.

Why doesn't my speedometer/odometer work?
My haynes repair manual said nothing about the speedometer or speedometer cable. It's a 1995 mazda protege. My turn signals went out, and I replaced a fuse then the speedmeter went out. I don't see how these things could be related, but I'm just saying. Any input would be appreciated, thanks! Why doesn't my speedometer/odometer work?
It is a mechanical cable that model. Your Haynes should have the place the speedometer cable hooks to in the transmission section. Somewhere near the tail housing. It has nothing to do with turn signal wiring. You just have a very old car that wasn't the highest quality vehicle in the world when it was new.

Can't get the glovebox out! 1994 c180 mercedes?
I followed the instructions I found in the Haynes repair manual but no luck.
Took out the light and disconnected it.
Unscrewed the 2 screws holding the lock bar in the top of the glovebox.
Pried up the 4 plastic rivet type things untill they "clicked" into the up position.
Then it should be ready for removal according to both sources.
But no. It is stubborn and I can feel it has to be locked in there by something else cause I was not shy on the force!
Any ideas? Can't get the glovebox out! 1994 c180 mercedes?
After removing all the hardware that keeps it in place there are still four latches that keep it attached to the dashboard. You need a plastic wedge (or a large flat screwdriver covered with insulation tape so you dont scratch the plastic parts) and unclip it on the top and bottom.

What kind of maintenance should I do on a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250R?
I just bought this bike with 8k miles on it. I put new tires on it and I'm going to change the oil soon. I was wondering if people had more suggestions about what else I should to this bike since I don't know everything the previous owner has maintained. Also, any recommendations on repair manuals would be great too. I was thinking about the Haynes manuals since I thought they were pretty good for cars. What kind of maintenance should I do on a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250R?
Skip the Haynes manuals for motorcycles, they're worthless (tell you to go to an authorized service center for half the stuff one would do to a bike).
You're lucky to have chosen a bike that has a Huge support network online, with free tutorials on how to take care of the bike. Here's a link to the Service Schedule page (tells you what needs to be done and when), where most entries have links to the write-ups on how to do that work:
http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Service_Sch鈥?/a>
I won't ride a bike without going through the entire service schedule and doing All fo the work. Too many years of flipping bikes has taught me that it's hazardous to my health to "assume" that any work, no matter how simple, was done, much less done correctly.

A Kawasaki Shop Manual for that bike if you wish but the Haynes Manual is good enough.
Great idea with the new tires! They are your life-line as long as they are good tires and you look after them.
Change the oil, filters (both oil and fuel) now and on a regular basis. (added- air filter would be a good idea also)
Lube and adjust all cables, drive chain and check brake fluid levels.
Inspect brake pads (you do plan on stopping, right?)
The list goes on and on, hopefully so do you and your bike.

your welcome.
Go to the public library. Xerox the part you need, unless you want the whole thing to keep on your bookshelf at home. The librarian can tell you everything you need to know to order one from the publisher. A good bookstore might order the book for you if they don't stock it. I got lucky years ago finding a used copy of a manual I needed at a bookstore. I wish you that kind of luck if you want to try that route.

I am wondering if i take the transaxle fluid level check plug out of the current place to check....?
level of fluid in my car, if it will release any fliud from the plug?
i am having what seems to be some transmission problems with my 2001 chevy cavalier and i know that i need to check the transmission fluid level. i couldnt find a dipstick so i turned to my GM book (haynes repair manual) and i read that to check it i need to get to the transaxle fluid level check plug, but i am wondering, due to is location, if i undo it, if anything will come out. also, i found the filler cap, and thats all it was, a filler cap, and i have searched my car in and out looking for a dipstick, there is none. what should i do?
Im 18, i know a little about cars from my dad. i usually get cars pretty well once i get into it. i cant take it to a mechanic due to money, no husband till the 29th (military) and i have a son and no babysitter. i need to check the fluid levels in my transmission, please talk me through it like im an idiot. thanks !!!I am wondering if i take the transaxle fluid level check plug out of the current place to check....?
there's a plug right next to the axle on the driver side its a 7/16 hex head or you can use a 11 metric wrench, loosen the plug, start your engine, and remove the plug (make sure you do this in the morning or when the engine is cold) add fluid till it comes out, tighten to 11 foot pounds. But if you don't see any leaks it should be fullI am wondering if i take the transaxle fluid level check plug out of the current place to check....?
tranny guy answer is correctI am wondering if i take the transaxle fluid level check plug out of the current place to check....?
Hey Child , go to an oil change place like CarX or valvoline or your nearest GM dealer as thy offer an oil change for $20 or so(very competitive with the cheap oil change places) and they will check fluid level for ya
In some GM's they built a sealed transmission. The little red cap you'll see on the top of the tranny can be removed simply by unscrewing it. There is no dipstick, so I would just dip a clean screwdriver in there and see if there's fluid. If there is, and you don't have any leaks, you should be okay.

there's a plug right next to the axle on the driver side its a 7/16 hex head or you can use a 11 metric wrench, loosen the plug, start your engine, and remove the plug (make sure you do this in the morning or when the engine is cold) add fluid till it comes out, tighten to 11 foot pounds.
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500,4wheel drive,5.2 L engine. Should it have a EGR valve?
I have a Haynes repair manual that says that it has an EGR valve and shows where it should be,but mine does'nt have one.The vacuum schematic in the engine compartment does not show one or any hoses going to one.I removed the manifolds and replaced them with headers and there was not any places in them for an EGR tube.I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500,4wheel drive,5.2 L engine. Should it have a EGR valve?
It is possible that a previous owner removed the EGR valve. All gas and now diesel engines come with an EGR valve as a pollution control device. To disable and/or remove is a violation of US EPA (federal) law. Periodically they will carbon over and need serviced. They are in the intake air stream and redirect spent gas back into the the engine for cleaner combustion. It will open and close according to engine load and computer programing (if electrically controlled) or vac demands, depending on the age and set up of the vehicle. EGR may source spent gas from other sources than the exhaust manifold. Your manual should show that as well. My 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel has an EGR system and a cat converter.
an egr valve takes exaust gass and sends it back into the engine to be reburnt if you dont have the tubes for one or the mounting spot and your check engine light in not on then you should be golden check the haynes manual its probably for the larger 5.9 magnum engineI have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500,4wheel drive,5.2 L engine. Should it have a EGR valve?
yes there is an egr valve, it will be mounted on the exhaust and there will be a tube running to the intake manifold, and it will also have a vacuum line from the egr to the intake manifold.
The egr valve does not connect to the exhaust manifolds. There def. should be one on a truck that new.I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500,4wheel drive,5.2 L engine. Should it have a EGR valve?
An EGR valve works by letting exhaust gasses into intake manifold. The purpose is to raise the intake air temp. which cuts down on oxides of nitrogen (NOX). Not every vehicle has one, but most do. I am sure the 99 5.2 has one. I had a 95 Grand Cherokee with the same engine, and it had one. Starting in 96, all vehicles are required to meet OBD2 standards, which are much more strict with emissions. On my 95, the EGR was in the rear of the manifold and had a tube from connecting both exhaust manifolds to EGR valve. It is controlled via the computer which controls a solonoid hooked to a vacuum source.

I have 1994 ford F-150 and i took apart the instrument cluster and now it beeps every time i turn the key?
I made sure i put everything back together rite (using Haynes repair manual)
still dont know why it beeps now.???I have 1994 ford F-150 and i took apart the instrument cluster and now it beeps every time i turn the key?
All cars do that. My cars do. They should stay on as long as your seatbelt isnt buckled, door ajar, or something. Should turn off when you start it up and everything is good, but unless it doesnt turn off when you drive... then i would say live with it.

Is there another name for the head gasket on a car?
hi, i'm going to attempt changing the head gaskets on my 1992 olds cultass supreme SL 3.1 L V6. I bought the correct Haynes repair manual for my car, but I can't seem to find where it shows step by step how to change the head gasket. I looked in the index, and its not even mentioned there. I was just wondering if there's another name for the head gasket. I was thinking it might be the intake gasket? Is there another name for the head gasket on a car?
The tech name for it is the cylinder head gasket
The intake gasket is not the same thing as head gasket.
Look in the engine repair part of book, and the engine overhaul part of book to find info on how to change it
I've got several Haynes manuals, and they just seem to get you in trouble. Go to the engine section, and check where they are re-assembling the engine. Should mention about head gaskets, and there will be torque values there also.Is there another name for the head gasket on a car?
Forget doing it yourself. If you don't know what needs to be done even looking in a manual, then how did you decide the gaskets need changing?
You won't be likely to have the right tools, either....
intake is top of motor before heads and far has i know only one name but might call it cylinder head gasket other than head gasketIs there another name for the head gasket on a car?

duct tape it.How do i repair transmission leak on 1997 ford taurus?
its the front seal and possibly the pump stator. the torque converter has a bushing on it if it wears then also wears the stator so trans out, if just the seal bad then you can replace that if the stator bad too then transmission has to come apart for that to be replaced so find trans shop (no aamco) this will not be a afternoon job even with a manual guiding you since frame will have to come out of the car to get trans out would have to get it high enough and support enginewindow tinting towing

Haynes manual for lexmoto street?
Hi, I have a lexmoto street 125 and I was thinking of buying the Haynes manual for Chinese motorcycles as seen here: http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001%26amp;storeId=10001%26amp;productId=51801%26amp;langId=-1
How much information is given as regards to carrying out repairs? I need to disassemble the front of the bike to inspect and grease the head bearings, does the guide cover this? Does it give step-by-step instructions on the tasks and does it cover most aspects of servicing?
Thanks!Haynes manual for lexmoto street?

I can't locate the PCV valve on my 94 Toyota 4-Runner. Help?
I have a new valve I'd like to install, but unlike other cars I've had, I can't figure out where to put it. I have a V6 engine (3VZE) with automatic transmission and 2WD. I have a repair manual, but it just shows an example based on a typical Toyota engine. I guess my engine is not so typical or maybe my Haynes Repair Manual is pretty much a joke..I can't locate the PCV valve on my 94 Toyota 4-Runner. Help?
I work at Auto Zone, and you can the nearest one to you and just give them your make and model and year and they can tell you exactly.Or with our new system if you go into the store they can give you a exact diagram of where it is located.Thats only if where ever you live has the new system yet.Mine does but I live in Cleveland Ohio.Hope I helped you.I can't locate the PCV valve on my 94 Toyota 4-Runner. Your right, the Haynes is a joke.
Take a look at the Factory service manual, it will be there. Here is one online in PDF format:

It should be on top of a valve cover, or along a hose coming from a valve cover.

Is there a difference? Which is better?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a difference between Chilton and Haynes repair manuals, and which of the two is better. I bought the Haynes Repair Manual for 1993-2002 Chevrolet Camaro / Pontiac Firebird because it was a couple dollars less. I have been considering picking up the Chilton Book Company Repair Manual: Total Car Care for 1993-1998 Chevrolet / Pontiac Camaro %26amp; Firebird as an extra resource in an attempt to get more information. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows if there is any more info in the Chilton that is not in the Haynes. Or if they're pretty much identical, making it a waste of money to also pick up the Chilton. Is there a difference? Which is better?
Personally I think that you are going to find most of what you'll likely need, info-wise, in the Haynes manual. For the most part the Chilton is redundant. If you were going to get another manual I'd get the actual Chevy manual specific to your vehicle...I'm sure a dealer has or could get one, but if you do a search on eBay, etc. you might find one at a reasonable price. There are also specialty shops that sell model-specific repair manuals. Hope this info helped.
I would have said Haynes is better, but now I've seen some Chiltons manuals that are exact duplicates of the Haynes ones. I think one of the companies bought the other one out.
If you want to get the most information possible, get the factory service manual. It's what the dealership mechanics use to fix cars. They are far more detailed than any of the aftermarket manuals. I've found there is no substitute for one. You can buy them here:
http://www.helminc.com/Is there a difference? Which is better?
throw both of them away and invest in the factory manual. i have found numerous errors in both of those manuals
the Chiltons goes slightly into more detail on complex systems of vehicle but the ultimate source of info is GM service manual for that car or alldata on the computerIs there a difference? Which is better?
there about the same but sometimes haynes has different info the chilton but they both r good some times chilton shows u more in certin areas of the repair then haynes
Haynes is a lot better. They have actual photos of the work on the car at times and are researched from an actual model of the mentioned car being taken apart.Chilton's is known for being generic. Their favorite phrase is"removal is reverse of installation" or/and "installation is the reverse is removal" The only thing they forgot to mention is the half dozen parts that need to come off before I even get to the part I need to replace!!!Chilton's is a waste of time unless you ran out of toilet paper.I agree with the person above me that the only other quaility manual would be the factory manual that you can get would be from a chevy dealer or maybe on ebay
I've used both, and frankly, I prefer Haynes. Just stick with that one.

Where is the coolant sensor located on a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo V6 3.2"?
My 1997 Isuzu Rodeo is overheating and the coolant fan is not coming on when the vehicle overheats unless I turn on the air conditoner and then it works just fine so my only guess is that is the coolant sensor but I can't seem to find it, and I even bought one of those Haynes Repair Manual but if was of no help to me. I thank anyone for their help please.Where is the coolant sensor located on a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo V6 3.2"?
Well, thats tricky. In my past experiences the sensor is located on the back of the engine, on the coolent pipes that lead into the heads, just about the bell housing. Unless you remove the engine, it will most likely be a PAIN to get too. I would take it to your local auto parts store and see if they will hook it up to a OBD II reader. Be mindful of the trouble code "PO118" which is related to that specific sensor. They will also be able to assist and guide you into getting it fixed! Best of luck!live meeting alpinestars

Replacing pollen/Cabin filter on Nissan Micra K11 1999 Model
I was just wondering how you go about changing the pollen filter / cabin filter on a Nissan Micra 1999 model do you get to it from inside the car or under the bonnet. I have a Haynes repair manual but don't seem to be any mention in there about how to replace it.Replacing pollen/Cabin filter on Nissan Micra K11 1999 Model
K11's with no a/c doesn't have a pollen filterReplacing pollen/Cabin filter on Nissan Micra K11 1999 Model
If equip with in cabin filter you access it Thur the glove box opening I just remove the glove box The filter either is on top of the blower unit or between the blower and Evaporator (A/C heat exchanger) and the heater box. Some time there are two tabs that say pull carefully pull upward on those tabs that releases the plastic rectangle shaped door. Remember the old filter has everything your allergic to stuck to it. Rubber gloves and particle mask might be needed. I just sneeze!Replacing pollen/Cabin filter on Nissan Micra K11 1999 Model
If you have aircon, then you have a pollen filter. It's behind the glovebox.
After removing the glovebox, you need to cut the panel behind to remove %26amp; replace the filter.

Is there somewhere I can download this?
Does anyone know where i can download (for free or fee) a Haynes repair manual for an Australian 2003 Ford Focus automatic transmission, 2.0 Litre Petrol? I am having a great deal of difficulty finding this, and we need it ASAP so we can repair a few problems. These manuals, we have attempted to purchase them locally, however there are none in stock and it seems none available in our state any time soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks :)Is there somewhere I can download this?
Don't have an easy answer for you, but in California, the local libraries have a lot of reference material, including repair manuals.
You're a lot more confident than I am. I can make almost any car driveable again, but I'd try to replace the transmission rather than replace it. Isn't there a dismantling shop near you? This is a seve-year-old car, so there must be a few who've been taken out of circulation. Second best idea might be to carry the transmission to a repair shop who have experience with this type of endeavor. If you get this done, good on ya!!

Are there any Chevy/GMC mechanics out there?
I am considering replacing the hydraulic clutch slave/master cylinder on my '85 s10 pickup...have a Haynes repair manual, but they always seem to lack all the info...anyone out there that can help fill in the gaps? Are there any Chevy/GMC mechanics out there?
It's a pretty straight forward procedure, drain as much of the brake fluid from the clutch master cylinder as you can, remove the lines (carefully), catching the fluid that is going to drip. Don't let it get on the paint. Remove the old parts, install the new, re-connect the lines, add fluid, purge the air.
You seldom have both the master and slave fail together. What is it you're really asking?

How to remove the brake drum in a 1988 mazda 626?
haynes repair manual says remove a plug in the back plate but there is no plugHow to remove the brake drum in a 1988 mazda 626?
it's a rubber plug, the idea is to get to the star adjuster wheel and back it down so the shoes will release to a point where you can remove the drum without tearing the entire assembly apart.
It there is no rubber plug, fine, there'll be an opening about 2" wide and 1/4" high.
You'll need 2 screwdrivers, one to move the adjuster wheel, the other to push the adjuster arm away.
and.. have lots of patience.

When I brake/accelerate my 89 accord LXi, a loud knocking sound comes. Just replaced my radiator. Whats wrong?
My 89 accord LXi was overheating, so I bought a new Radiator, and replaced all the hoses, fresh coolant..... installed fine. However it still overheats.......and my temp gauge shoots up into orbit!
On top of that, when I press the brake or accelerator, there is a loud knocking sound from the engine. When I release the brake/accel, the knocking sound goes away. I am almost ready to give up on fixing the car, but wanted to give it one last shot, since it is my first car.
Any suggestions out there?
Also how do you replace the water pump? I have the Haynes repair manual, accordingly i went to the area in the engine. I can't seem to loosen the nut. How do you move the pulley away?
Help! When I brake/accelerate my 89 accord LXi, a loud knocking sound comes. Just replaced my radiator. Whats wrong?
I'll start with the major problem - your water pump is stuffed. you could pull the old one out but if you mess with the timing, you'll have a real mongrel of a time getting it fixed - and your car won't go properly until it is fixed. My advice in this case would be to find a friend that has done this operation before and get them to teach you how to change the water pump - or get it done professionally.
The knocking sound could be any number of things but as its limited to accelerating and braking, I'd be inclined to thinking something is loose - if the noise is coming from your engine, then its probably something to do with your water pump - there's too many variables here to make a good diagnosis.
may be you haven't installed the radiator properlyWhen I brake/accelerate my 89 accord LXi, a loud knocking sound comes. Just replaced my radiator. Whats wrong?
could be ball joints or brakes, maybe a control arm bushing, or even brake calipers
Is the waterpump leaking? Otherwise, I'd leave it alone and start with the thermostat? It's only a couple of dollars and easy to replace. One other thing you might look at is the radiator fan - is it coming on when the engine heats up? That could be a source for overheating. Also, when you gas on it and get the knocking sound, is that after it is hot? If so, that is a "normal" sound for an overheated motor. You will end up with worse problems that what you already have if you continue to drive it hot so stop it.When I brake/accelerate my 89 accord LXi, a loud knocking sound comes. Just replaced my radiator. Whats wrong?
Most probably the thermostat is not functioning properly and not diverting the coolant to radiator when temp goes high. You got to replace it. Check also the fan whether starts up (if it is electric-motor driven), when temp goes high on the gauge. Secondly if the sound is coming only when car stops or moves, may be the radiator is loose, since you replaced it recently, and hitting on something. Check it for wobbling.
It's possible that the head gasket could be blown, with the engine cool and shut off, remove the radiator cap, then start the engine and observe the coolant in the radator, if you see air bubbles or the coolant blowing up out of the radiator then it's for sure you have a blown head gasket.Check the motor mounts for looseness or cracks, check the cv joints.
The Haynes manual should have detailed instructions on replacing the water pump, follow them to the letter, without knowing for sure how the Accord's water pump is driven I can't advise you on how to remove it but like I said the Haynes Manual should have explicit details on how to remove it.
Sounds like almost a lost cause. The water pump is in the timing cover with the timing belt. Definitely a restriction, but it sounds like you may have scored a piston as well with the knocking sound. Sounds like maybe a piston skirt. I wouldn't sink more money into this car. Find a Subaru. Good luck.

How do I locate the Low Side service port in the A/C system of a 1996 Volkswagon Jetta?
I'm trying to recharge my A/C/ systems and need to locate the low side service port of the A/C system in my 1996 Volkswagon Jetta Trek. All of the third party repair manuals (Haynes) sink and show no photos... The recharge hose, such as that with the Quest r134a recharge kit, are only supposed to fit the low side. How do I locate the Low Side service port in the A/C system of a 1996 Volkswagon Jetta?
Follow the tubes from the ac compressor, you will find the service valve most likely next to the condenser (in front of the radiator) with a plastic cap with a letter L on it.How do I locate the Low Side service port in the A/C system of a 1996 Volkswagon Jetta?

Passenger side, almost against the firewall, about half way down. Both ports are found here.
look at the firewall on the passenger side for 2 aluman. pipes
about 1/2 inch in diam. you will see a plastic cap that should be blue in color that will unscrew and reveal the low side. this fitting works like a quick-coupler used in garages that have air tools. you pull the ring and push on and it locks, pull the ring back and it pops off the fitting. the high side of your system is in the front of your vw, so stay away from there. make sure that your electric fan also kicks on.with the a/c on

1996 Chevy Lumina APV Power Sliding Door?
Hi,
The power feature on the sliding door of the above mentioned car is not working. The door will only open and close manually.
I have some experience in automotive electrical system repair. The problem is finding a wiring diagram or any information (for that matter) on the door.
I have both the Chiltons and Haynes repair manual for the car. Neither book has any information on the door.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting information on this door? Is there a website where I can download or view a wiring diagram?
Thank You1996 Chevy Lumina APV Power Sliding Door?

Best manual for the 1967 Mustang Fastback..?
I am looking for a repair/manual guide for this car, preferably NOT the Haynes manual, as most reviews have bagged this one.
I will get a seperate book for the 302 motor, but I am mainly looking for a book which details the rest of the car (wiring, especially).
Anyone know of one they can recommend..??

How do i remove the seat from my 2001 audi a4 quattro?
i have the haynes repair manual but its not being much of a help finding front track boltsHow do i remove the seat from my 2001 audi a4 quattro?
Move the seat all the way back. The bolts should be triple-squares, 12 mm. They are almost all the way at the front of the track. Remove them, and move the seat all the way forward. Open the rear door and remove the rear track bolts, and you can pull the seat right out.
Hope this helps.

Why is there not a haynes manual for the peugeot 107 05 plate?
i have looked on the haynes website and it is not on there, i've looked on ebay amazon, and checked google... there seems to be no existence of the haynes manual on the peugeot 107 05 plate. any help would be appreciated.
the nature of the book being used would be to service and repair my car which has just gone over the 100k mileage, and the tappets are rattling. so with the credit crunch taking a chunk out of our pockets, i'm having to look after my car and spend low amounts rather than buy a newa car or do finance, we could never afford anything like that so haynes manual would be a blessing.
oh forgaot to mention i checked the breaker yard/scrap yards to... no luck there eitherWhy is there not a haynes manual for the peugeot 107 05 plate?

You could try this website. I do not know anything at all about them, but they are half the price of a Haynes manual.
Best of luck with it, Bob.Why is there not a haynes manual for the peugeot 107 05 plate?
Are you sure it's tappets? I thought they had hydraulic lifters like most other toyota engines.
I'm guessing it's the 1.0 petrol you have and not the 1.4 diesel.
Servicing tends to be the same for nearly all cars. Oil and filter change, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, brake fluid change. check brake discs and pads. renew coolant with the same type.
change gearbox oil too.Why is there not a haynes manual for the peugeot 107 05 plate?
I had the same problem with a berlingo manual, hayne's reply was they had no plans to publish one.Are they giving them up?
Hello
I used to work years ago with the son of the owner of Haynes GB. Before Haynes bring out a manual there is a minimum number of that car sold before they produce a manual. It costs them the same however many are sold but they have to have reasonable expectation of selling enough at the prices they charge to make it financially viable.
If it costs 拢30,000 to produce a manual you would not do so if only 10 of those cars were sold as you would not reasonably expect all 10 owners to pay 拢3,000 or 拢6,000 if only 5 bought them?
Only advice is check into if there was another model that had the same engine? If so get that one.

Check engine light on with code PO138 is that before or after catalytic converter oxygen sensor?
if after the catalytic converter oxygen sensor where can i find a good website that shows how to replace it(DIY) with pictures/photos without buying haynes/chiltons repair manual ? would adding fuel injector cleaner/seafoam/or the tightening the gas tank lid works ?Check engine light on with code PO138 is that before or after catalytic converter oxygen sensor?
that code is pre cat easy to change and needs only a wrenchCheck engine light on with code PO138 is that before or after catalytic converter oxygen sensor?
I had the diognostic code po138. referred to oxygen sensor issue. Replaced the o2 sensor and reset computer by disconnecting positive battery terminal like suggested, the check engine light still came on, This is kinda funny but i bought a new gas cap for 11.00 and reset the computer again. fixed.
PO138 o2 sensor circuit high voltage (bank 1 sensor 2) This does not indicate a bad sensor. If it was bad there would be no signal or an erratic signal. High voltage could indicate a rich mixture in the exhaust system and possibly a bad cat. This sensor is after the cat. Bank one varies depending on where the # 1 cylinder is on the engine, left or right side. You need a scanner that can produce a graph to check o2 sensors properly. Injector cleaner in the tank may help as a dirty injector can cause rich mixture. You can add the cleaner and have Auto Zone or some auto supply turn off your check engine lite and wait to see if it comes back on. It won't go off by itself. If your car is a little sluggich or is starting to lack power you have a cat.problem. A continuing rich mixture will damage the cat by overheating it. NEVER replace a part till you know the problem.

PO138 21 Downstream H02S shorted to voltage Harness and connector / Downstream HO2S
This code is for the O2 Sensor behind the cats.
Your O2 Sensor has gone bad.
The sensor is on Bank 1 Sensor 2. Meaning driver's side, sensor behind the catalytic converters.
This code is indicating the voltage the O2 sensor is detecting is too high. Generally a O2 sensor generates it's own electricity and send the signal to the computer to control the air/fuel mixture or to check to make sure the Catalytic converters are working efficiently. They usually have a range of 1-5VDC. The OBDII Computer on your car is detecting a high voltage. In your case, the O2 sensor involved is checking to make sure your cats are working.
When a O2 sensor goes bad, it is common to find this problem of high voltage triggering the code.

Haynes auto manual..........?
i need to do some work on my truck and have some knowledge about automotive repair, but not much. is the haynes auto manual any good? its like $25, should i get it?Haynes auto manual..........?
they can help.. but not the best info in the world
you would be better off trying to get a Chilton's.. or do what I did.. grab a wrench, and start turning bolts..
forums are not great because the people act like they are above you. If it has a bolt or a screw, you can find it, and I have not had any books for the last 12 years. I just do it. I will Google a bolt pattern for a sequence now and then but as far as doing what I want to do... I just do it. Experience is the best teacher.
now I build full custom vehicles in my spare time.

they're not the best, but for the price you cant go wrong reallyHaynes auto manual..........?
Yes, I have the Haynes manuals for both of my vehicles and they are pretty thorough. I love them!
I have found it better to use the internet, or find a "Forum" for your specific vehicle.
People on the forums are very helpful, and may be able to direct you to a place where you can download a service manual for your vehicle.Haynes auto manual..........?
thewy are probably the best on the market.. Ive got them dasting back to my dad's first car and they are a invaluable tool. They break down everything in deteail so that if you really wanted to you could take apart the whole car and rebuild it again. Just get it and that way if something is not making sense then you have it as a reference
Haynes is good. Look at it in the library before you buy one to make sure what you need is in there. Each manual seems to leave one thing out or have one bad diagram. You might get your manual cheaper at a big chain bookstore like Borders, or Barnes and Noble.
You can get a lot of information online. www.autozone.com has a lot of repair information. Haynes is a good resource as well. Check out ebay as well. You can usually find slightly used manuals there for less than a new one.
here is a place to get a manual for your car:
www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t89鈥?br>
go here and go to the adress listed on the page follow the instructions
i use it all the time to print off manuals
Haynes is the industry standard
It will tell you pretty much how to replace anything from a head light to a door.
It will tell you the name of the part you want to replace. So you are not saying to a mechanic " its the round thingy on the end of the whatsit"
It is worth having the Haynes Manual for the vehicle you own.
I've been working on cars for a lot of years and although I feel comfortable with all the basics I still keep a copy of an aftermarket manual for each vehicle in my garage, and when I'm not sure about something I read through the suggested procedure beforehand.
Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes I get better information by doing an internet search, but sorting through all the garbage that comes up can take longer than the repair itself.
They do provide useful information such as the correct torque to use on specific bolts, or the correct installation sequence for bolts on a major repair, etc . . .
My biggest complaint is that aftermarket manuals tend to cover a wide range of years, models, and engines, so information is not always correct for the specifc car I'm working on.
But I buy them anyway, because over the life of the car I always get a few useful tidbits of information that more than justifies the cost.
Whether you're working on a truck with a V8 and a carburetor, or a car with twin cams and a turbo, you need to know how to work smart. That's why you need to take a Haynes repair manual with you to the garage every time. Older vehicles may seem simple, but they still have pitfalls that a Haynes repair manual can help you avoid. And as for newer cars, well, a Haynes manual can tell you what all that wiring and plumbing under the hood does. The neat thing about Haynes repair manuals is that each one is based on a complete teardown and rebuild by the folks at Haynes repair manuals.renova christian bookstore

The neat thing about Haynes repair manuals is that each one is based on a complete teardown and rebuild by the folks at Haynes repair manuals.
Which repair and maintenance DIY manual is better for a 2004 Honda Civic?
I know Chilton's is more expensive than Haynes, $30 versus $21....Usually the store will have them wrapped so you can't preview what you are buying. which is better of the too? more info, more details, more pictures, more accurate. This is for my 2004 Honda Civic LX.Which repair and maintenance DIY manual is better for a 2004 Honda Civic?
Chilton and Haynes are very limited, you can get an online repair manual at alldata.com for $17 for a 1 yr subscription. If your not used to using their system sometimes it may be a little frustrating to find some of the information your looking for, but it is a complete repair manual and will put chilton and haynes to shame.Which repair and maintenance DIY manual is better for a 2004 Honda Civic?
The best would be the factory service manual from the dealer. Chilton/haynes total amount of pages mounts to about less than an inch thick. The service manual just for your year of vehicle is about 2 to 3 inches thick. trust me, you can do alot more with the service manual, which in turn will save you money on doing your own repairs.

Could the timing instructions in the Haynes manual be wrong?
Chrysler Sebring 01 v6 2.7 Is it possible the dealership manual could say something different? Anyone know what manual the dealership uses? We have had a head gasket repair and water pump repair but my "backyard mechanic" just finished the job and car isnt starting!!! Were assuming it is the timing but not sure. It is the only thing I can think of given it started before. There is no compression. He believes the Haynes manual may be off. I am not sure. It makes like a growling noise when you go to start it but no goCould the timing instructions in the Haynes manual be wrong?
if it has no compression, the timing could be absolutely perfect, the spark nice and strong, the fuel system working perfectly, and it getting the right amount of air to go with the fuel, AND IT STILL WONT START.
without compression you dont have a mechanically sound engine.
that head gasket was NOT properly installed, or wasnt the only thing wrong (if the gasket itself was even bad to begin with).
it needs to come all apart again.
You need to recheck the timing marks, if your crankshaft was 180 degrees off when put back together, then your valves may be open when they should be closed. Other wise you should have at least some compression on some of the cylinders.
Need to follow what the Hayes manual said about finding Top Dead Center.Could the timing instructions in the Haynes manual be wrong?
If there is no compression as you said then no it's not the timing.
It would be the valve adjustment, head gasket install, or the rings
The 2.7 V6 is one of the worst engines ever constructed. You are better off cutting your losses and finding another car because that thing Is just gonna end up a money pit.Could the timing instructions in the Haynes manual be wrong?
Sounds like the biggest problem might be your "backyard mechanic".

Lower Ball on 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, can I replace it myself?
Haynes repair manual says to have a shop do it for me and Autozones's on-line repair guide says it's not replacable, but they sell the ball joint. My daughter drives my grandson around in this car and is flat broke. I need to save money but don't want to put anyones life at risk.Lower Ball on 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, can I replace it myself?
If you have never done a ball joint replacement, now is not the time to do it yourself. A mechanic should be able to replace @ 1 hour of labor. You should also have a front end align done when replacing front end parts.Lower Ball on 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, can I replace it myself?
About the only suspension part(s) the DIY mechanic can do are the tie rod ends (even that requires a front end alignment).
No, ball joints are out of the question, there exists a lot of pressure and you could seriously injure or kill yourself.Lower Ball on 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, can I replace it myself?
Have a pro do it. You are dealing with pressed in parts and a tremendous amount of spring tension. If you do it yourself the life at risk would be yours.

Why does engine tick after doing an oil pan replacement?
93 honda accord, first time changin the oil pan, according to the Haynes Repair Manual, i did everything correct, after puttin oil in it an go to start it up the engine makes a ticking noise, like as if a rod is makin the noise, never did have the noise before the oil pan change. an the ticking noise is on an offWhy does engine tick after doing an oil pan replacement?
Possibly something with the oil pump. Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If you are at too low of pressure, it will tick and knock. If its the oil pump, your engine has about 5 miles to liveWhy does engine tick after doing an oil pan replacement?
When was the last time you've adjusted the valve? it may just need valve adjustment, having a new oil pan just made the sound worse. I would least take off the valve cover, and measure a cylinder valve gap to make sure they are in spec. Why does engine tick after doing an oil pan replacement?
You sure you put the oil plug back in, changed the oil filter and tightened on right, and put the cap back on?

Power steering pump on 85 chevy PU?
I have searched the net and have a Chilton's and Haynes repair manual, but there is no place that shows a blown up diagram and / or show you in pictures how to remove the pump. I have loosened all bolts but it still does not move.Power steering pump on 85 chevy PU?
There is a hidden bolt behind the pump that bolts the pump bracket to the block.

you have to reduce the tension on the belt via the tensioner pulley and take off hosesPower steering pump on 85 chevy PU?
Keep hunting I think you missed a bolt. I rember having that same prob shine some light in there and hunt U may have to get at it through ahole in pully im not sure it was a while ago but I do rember there was a hidden bolt god luck
i have been out of the loop for 3 weeks, but here you go. Not many realize that your alternator is also bolted to the the pump and to remove it you must remove the alternator also. I believe on the top of alt. there is tow bolts and two on the bottom also that need removal but the main bolt on the bottom also goes through the top of your pump. Remove them all and loosen all your belts, the pump should swing up and down, and upon removal of these bolts your pump should slide out of its bracket. If this isn't the case in your situation take the vehicle to your nearest auto zone and they can show you at no charge, they wont do it but can assist you in this area.

Dodge intrepid 1995 air conditioning system?
i have a 1995 Dodge intrepid 3.5 L with a ATC control Digital AC module and a 12 Volt relay on the dash module. It's a 12 volt relay with 4 prongs not 5 and is said to be the rear windowo defroster relay. The part is not longer made in the US per dodge and Chrysler dealers here. Whole Module is 525.00 but has no relay in the rear if pluged in. Told to go to the Junk Yard to get. Compressor is fine. Self diagnotics read 23 ATC Blend blend door feed back control ? and and ATC head communications failure. Works some time then goes from dash fan to deforest fan . The some times works fine. . The 12 volt relay which module is a chrysler product , pulls only 10.5 on a volt meter. . Could this be the problem , low voltage. . Compressor is fine. All relays under the hood are new are pull 75 olms per haynes repair manual. ATC control in the dash, with small fan runs but with only 10.5 volt getting to the power supply for all the unit , could it be the relay on the back of the dash module?Dodge intrepid 1995 air conditioning system?

Where is the "engine block drain plug" for coolant and how on earth dis/re-connect the lower radiator hose?
1994 Ford Escort LX 1.9 L 4Cyl with 142,000 miles and going.
In process of: flushing coolant, new hoses, new thermostat. Haynes Repair Manual says there is a engine block drain plug to get the rest of the coolant out but no photo.
Please describe where/what I'm looking for, or provide a photo ?
Thanks so much !Where is the "engine block drain plug" for coolant and how on earth dis/re-connect the lower radiator hose?
i've never heard of an ehgine block drain plug, but there is a drain plug on the radiator itself, called a "petcock". the best way to remove coolant from your engine block water jackets is to remove the upper and lower radiator hoses and take out the thermostat. grab a garden hose, shove it in the thermostat housing(where upper rad hose connects to engine) and turn the water up full blast. if water starts rushing out of the bottom of the block, your correctly flushing the block.
this same thing can be done to flush the radiatorWhere is the "engine block drain plug" for coolant and how on earth dis/re-connect the lower radiator hose?
there should be a small plug somewhere by the soft plugs, it probably has a square end on it instead of a regular bolt.window tinting language translation

Which car repair manual should I buy?
Hello. I am interested in repairing my car myself, and possibly my family members' cars. I need to know how to change spark plugs/wires, how to do a compression test, how to change gaskets, how to change/troubleshoot starters/solenoids, and I'd like to learn how to change a timing belt but from what I've read it seems like schooling is required for that sort of job. I need a good manual or textbook to get a basic understanding, then I need a manual for my specific car. I was looking at Haynes. What are the best manuals/textbooks for this thanks in advance!!!Which car repair manual should I buy?
I recommend factory repair manual, its the best, particularly on body tasks like taking the doors apart. Chilton's usually has a decent amount of detail and covers a great majority of the repairs while the Haynes manual comes from the perspective of someone who has torn down the car and is giving you more advice.
I think Chilton manuals are the best. They are not always easy to find though. You might have to go to Amazon to find one. I prefer Chilton to Haynes because the Chilton manuals seem to be more detailed. If you are buying a manual for a vehicle that you will own for a while, there is nothing wrong with getting both. They only cost $15-$20 each. You will save that much money the first time you change your own radiator hose.Which car repair manual should I buy?
in most cases a Haynes manual from Advance Auto, Autozone, or O Rielly's is your best bet. You don't need to have schooling to change timing belts. Just a good DIY or manual, the right tools, and some time. Its pretty easy on most cars as long as you can time an engine and have time to deal with all the little stupid things that happen.
I prefer if I can, a specific Chassis Manual published by the manufacturer for the year and model. I had one for my '88 Cadillac Brougham. Cost $125 but well worth it. Sorry I don't remember the company I went through. They are in Michigan and carry most every year and every model, completely.Which car repair manual should I buy?

2002 honda civic lx 1.7 lt engine replacement?
1%26gt; I am going to replace my honda civic engine. What years of engine i can use for 2002 civic? 2001 to 2004? It gives me more option while shopping.
2%26gt; How difficult it will be using haynes repair manual to swap engine. Something that can be done by ourself? Is there lot of technical stuff i will have to know to get it working.
What i am planning is i will buy enigne from junk yard and swap it my self. Get it working. And then take it to mechanic for fine tuning.2002 honda civic lx 1.7 lt engine replacement?
The interchange is 2001 through 2005 DX or LX type.Changing a front wheel drive engine is not the type of job to undertake at home.Any good shop can find a good used engine for that car.Make sure you get at least a 90 day warranty.I have a good used engine for your car,our yard is in Houston. You can find one locally on car-part.com...search by distanceIf you're in the Houston area, post back here...we can even do the installation.2002 honda civic lx 1.7 lt engine replacement?
I would recommend taking it to a mechanic. There is a lot of work involved in switching out an engine. You can't just "swap it" out. You may have to get the block machined, for one. Good luck. Try a Chilton's manual instead. Haynes are not as good.

Repair Manual Question?
Does anyone know where I can find a repair manual "BOOK" no online manuals for a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon. Nobody seems to carry it and it seems Chilton and Haynes does not make one. Why would they not make one for this specific vehicle.Repair Manual Question?

Try the public library. If they have it, that shows it exists anyway. Order one from the publisher. Look on the title-verso page and get the publisher's address and ISBN number for the book so you can order exactly that one. If the library doesn't have the book you want, have the librarian find it in "Books In Print", and show you how to order it. Are all automotive vacuum lines interconnected somehow?
I'm in the final stages of swapping an engine (1995 Olds 88) and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to figure out where all these vacuum lines went. Is there some sort of large "vacuum"-type component somewhere and everything splits off from that or are they all different vacuum circuits that are separately controlled with separate pressures? And if so, would a repair manual (haynes) have a workable diagram? Are all automotive vacuum lines interconnected somehow?
Question 1. Nope they do not.
Question 2. Yes the manual will have this.
All of the car's vacuum lines end-up at the intake manifold, the source. There is usually a 'log' sub-manifold, a hollow piece with several smaller lines running from it, %26amp; one larger line feeding it, from the intake manifold. There are also several vacuum powered switches %26amp; sensors around the engine, %26amp; these systems have to be plumbed correctly, in order, or you'll have a problem. Are all automotive vacuum lines interconnected somehow?
you have two types of vacuum, manifold and timed. they all go back to the same source of vacuum yes, but you do not want to have some devices to have manifold (full) vacuum at specific times. you need to find a book that should have a vacuum diagram or literature to help you with this adventure. your vehicle will have way more than a few lines.
Yeah, they can be, there should be a vacummn pump on it, its either on the back of alternator or on the end of the camshaft, other than that it might get the vacummn off the inlet manifold, What you need is an identicle car to take a look at, dont think haynes manual will show that upAre all automotive vacuum lines interconnected somehow?
theres differnt lines going differnt places doing differnt things,,also known as rats nest,,,,repair manual is 25 dollars,,,best 25 you will EVER spend
yes get a manual or you could get everything screwed up. different hoses goes to different places.

Replacing my brakes on my 99 crown victoria?
I am replacing the rear brakes on my 99 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and I can not get the rotor off (Already got the caliper and brake pads off). My haynes repair manual says there are rivets holding it in place but I can not find any rivets, or even a place where the rivets should be. Any help would aprreciated Replacing my brakes on my 99 crown victoria?
the best thing to do if your going to replace the rotor is to give it some good hits with a hammer to break to rust loose.they usually are rusted onReplacing my brakes on my 99 crown victoria?
I'm not sure of the rivets but try gently banging on the rotors edge with a hammer or on the studs(put the lug nuts back on with them almost flush with the threads and bang on the nuts itself). This will prevent damaging the threads.. It could be that there just really stuck.
If that doesn't work try asking a mechanic at the Ford dealership. Replacing my brakes on my 99 crown victoria?
maybe a nut in the middle or take a hammer to it ive also seen them with screw holes that youy have to screw in to push off
and soak it in something like PB blaster or wd40. both break up rust and make it easier to remove

Do you know where I can get a factory repair manual for a 1996 Ford Explorer (second generation)? I tried a Google search and found nothing as far as factory manuals go. If they are not widely available, which is better, Haynes or Chilton? The Haynes gets better reviews.
Could I find the factory manual at a dealership, perhaps?

Libraries tend to have a few on their shelves, obviously the bigger the library, the better the selection
Or you COULD try a Boot Sale, i have normally picked up my manuals for a couple of quid.
Better than the 拢18.99 online price from the Haynes site

Go to your local library - even if they don't have it, they should be able to obtain a copy for you from another library.
try your local library, they won't let you check the books out but you should be able to find out what you need, and maybe more. Good Luck!!
Just about everyone is right! try your local library, under "historical vehicles" section.
Without purchasing the manual, try your local library.
Just for ref the ISBN is 1 859600 560 5.
your local library should have a copy.
Library if you just want to look; try eBay, might be cheaper to buy one than pay copying charges!

Where is fuel pump/oil press switch on 93 caprice?
Hi im not gettin any fire to fuel pump, I added a line from the hot wire to the fuel pump and it worked but in the wiring diagram it says that the fuel pump oil pressure switch is next in line, possibly causing it not to fire. In the chevy Haynes Repair Manual its really not giving an accurate position so I don't know where to look exactly. Please help!Where is fuel pump/oil press switch on 93 caprice?
on a gm, the cpu controls the fuel pump. start by checking fuses. after that the cpu turns the pump on in two different scenarios
1 the key was just turned on , the pump will activate for about 5 seconds to regain the pressure lost since thew last drive cycle.
2 if the cpu sees a tach signal with at least 400 rpm the cpu will again activate the fuel pump.
the fuel pump in most cars has a relay in the control circuit, you might want to check that and see if that is not the problem. you will not find an oil pressure switch that controls that pump, the ac yes but not the fuel pump.

How do you replace the fuel pump regulator on '99 chevy pickup (old body style) 350 engine?
I have started %26amp; got most of it off the top intake. but cant get the top of intake to come off the fuel injection.do I have to take the two fuel lines off, as the distributor is in the way. what am I doing wrong? I have a haynes repair manual but its not that clear on this subject...any help would be nice. thanksHow do you replace the fuel pump regulator on '99 chevy pickup (old body style) 350 engine?
NO NO NO don"t touch the distributor, you don't need to take it out,
But you do need to remove the two fuel lines going to the injector block. The upper plenum WILL clear the distributor.
Once you remove the lines, pry a little on the plenum, it will come out, inside is the regulator. How do you replace the fuel pump regulator on '99 chevy pickup (old body style) 350 engine?

Timing marks worn off of 1987 Honda Civic?
The timing marks should be on the crankshaft pulley according to my Haynes repair manual. However, this is a 21 year old car and they are worn off. How do I go about painting on new timing marks? I'd have to put them in the correct spot. So, how would I go about finding the correct spot to put the timing marks since mine are worn off? 1987 Honda Civic SOHC. 12 valve.Timing marks worn off of 1987 Honda Civic?
The first dude gave some good input however if you daring enuff to get oily, Drop you oil pan and manually turn you engine till the first pistion is up. You'll need a flashlight and possible a mirror. This is a lot simpler that taking off your head, although it may be less acurate.
I had a 89 civic and my timing marks were pretty grooved into the pully. Thats as of 2 years ago with near 300K miles on it then, so i don't suspect that your marks are worn off. Take a reall GOOD look at the pully and i'd bet that they are still there. I've worked on older cars most of my auto life and the timing marks are always there sometimed there is grime that has to be removed but there still there.Timing marks worn off of 1987 Honda Civic?
That Sucks,
Take off the Head and put number 1 piston up,
right to the piont where it is as high as possible,
to do this you need to put car in neutral and crank motor by hand. If you dont know where number one piston is look in your manual or reserch it.
Once the Pistons up you can mark the pully where it lines up with timing marker.
if you have any problems this web site it VERY helpful

How do i change the differential in my 1990 Corolla?
1990 Corolla.
Was drained when I filled it up with 80W90 gear oil.
Auto transmission.
US calif. Model. 4AFE engine.
I think something gave way inside(probably a tooth on one of the gears). It starts rolling, I hear a loud crack, and the left wheel shakes.
It started doing it when it turned only, now it does it going straight too.
CV joints are new and OK.
Tie rods Ok(new)
Steering perfect.
Brakes perfect( new caliper) New pads.
Auto transmission: new filter and fluid. Seems to work smooth( Then again, I have never seen what a broken down auto transmission feels like; anyone knows the symptoms of a faulty transission?)
My diagnosis is that my problem is the differantial, but i do not even know if i can just replace the differential alone(it is front wheel drive) or if it is part of the auto transmission.
ps. I have both Chiltons AND Haynes repair manuals, but neither talk .... about the differential. They go off track talking about the all wheel drive wagon transfer case. How do i change the differential in my 1990 Corolla?
I'm a little skeptical, "a loud crack" doesn't quite do it for me. I would inspect the suspension and CV joints again.
However, the car is a front wheel drive so the differential should allow slippage as the wheels turn. Fast repetitive slippage and seizing could possibly cause the wheel to shake. 80W90 does sound a little light, I would have guessed 85 or even 90 weight oil do to the direct connection to the transmission. The differential should be bolted on to the bellhousing, so you should be able to remove it without the transmission but I wouldn't know for sure without looking at it. I suggest removing the differential cover and checking the gear teeth for wear or any metal loose pieces of metal (there should be a magnet at the bottom that collects these). A bad transmission wouldn't cause the symptoms your describing. Normally when an automatic transmission fails it tends to burn fluid, slip, shift really rough, sick in one gear, not go forward or not go into reverse, hell I've even seen cause the engine to die out. You might be able to find one in the junkyard.
Anyway, good luck with that, I hope you figure it out and get it resolved. I'm curious to know what it is.

Does anyone here think Haynes manuals suck?
I have read at least 15 different Haynes auto repair manuals. Maybe 2 out of 15 were good and informative. Problems with the majority are they are just briefers.. with statements like.. refer to a qualified repair person only.
Or how to do something complex such as rebuild a carburater.. describing it in one paragraph.. and showing a bunch of meaning-less pictures and diagrams.
Does anyone else feel like Haynes just rips people off?Does anyone here think Haynes manuals suck?
I've never been really impressed with Haynes books. Even so, I try to have a copy for whatever car I own. It helps when trying to locate certain components, getting torque specs, or to supply an overall direction to follow. They are useless to someone who doesn't already have some mechanical knowledge and ability.
For my Porsche 914 I also own original Porsche microfiche shop service manual, Clymer, Chilton, Haynes, and a few other manuals. Between them all it helps create a good overall picture of what is happening.
I prefer Chilton's myself.Does anyone here think Haynes manuals suck?
Yep, They do that to allow people to have a basic understanding of they're car, but they wan't shops to still stay in business. Anything that can be called a hazored if not properly repaired they are not legally alloud to print becasue of liability. Mechanics are not stupid people, I'm currantly in Training, I'm in a Basic 4 year course, I've foudn my course after all I want to do is going to take 6 years of classes. Mechanics are not stupid, people seem to think otherwise.
If it's anything major, your better off not doing a DIY job anyway.Does anyone here think Haynes manuals suck?
Haynes and Chiltons are basics manuals. I have a preference to Mitchels or Motors. The best way to go is Helms, it covers a specified vehicle and year. So if you are buying a new(er) vehicle that is what you need to spend the money on. Same goes for motorcycles. Buy the manuals from the manufacture, that's what their 'certified' techs use.
When I've sold the vehicle, I give the option to the purchaser to buy the original manufacturers books, I still have a numer of mine left. You never know when a deal will come along that you may end up with another of the same.
they have their limits , true , i get a kick out of the fact they show you how to rebuild the engine , what a waste of paper
It os ok.... it barely covers the basics, but dosent have enough pictures, they are the same as Chiltons manual.justin bieber phone number map of idaho

What is the torque for the crankshaft pulley bolt for a 1992 honda accord lx?
haynes repair manual indicates 159. Is this correct? What is the torque for the crankshaft pulley bolt for a 1992 honda accord lx?
159 ft-lbs it is... the Helm manual agrees. The threads are to be oiled but not the part that contacts the washer.
Getting it that tight without an impact driver (which makes torque measurement difficult anyway) normally requires a pulley holder. Check out the first source for details and ideas.

My friend owns a Z32. He uses an only service manual for his car. I don't think he ever even bothered looking for a paper manual. Below is the link

Those manuals are still available from Nissan Call a Dealership parts department they may give you the direct number to call. Delta Press I think still prints them.
