I have to fix the power steering on a 3.6L V6, 03 Jeep Liberty Freedom Edition with 79,000 miles on it. It's leaking out of the metal tubing connected to the hose that connects with the sensor, the leak is coming from the portion of the metal tubing that connects with the reservoir. I replaced the seal but that didn't help.
Im not sure if I need to replace the whole system or not.
Im going to replace the tubing and hoses, then if i need to, the pump.
My question is what is a better repair manual, Haynes, Chilton or the manufacter, which seems to be expensive.
Has anyone seen this problem before? If so, what fixed it?
Thanks in Advanced for any help!Have you seen this P/S problem before? Repair manual for 2003 Jeep Liberty, who's the best?
First for the power steering problem. I had to replace the lines and the pump to fix the leak on my 2002 Liberty. Sounds like the same leak.
My mileage was 55K.
As far as manuals, the Manufacturer's is far superior to a Chilton or Haynes Manual. Here is my rating scheme.
1. Factory Service manual(s) Costly but great details
2. Chilton repair manual less expensive, but omits a lot of info
3. Haynes repair manual. Even cheaper, but the meager-est of the bunch as far as information.Have you seen this P/S problem before? Repair manual for 2003 Jeep Liberty, who's the best?
That metal tube and hose is your power steering pressure line. They are very common and available from a dealer or the aftermarket parts stores. Very common problem on that vehicle and easy to replace. The only reason it would need a pump is if it has been run low on fluid too much because of the leak that the pump has been damaged.
