What kind of polish should I get to polish my piston?

I have a 1982 suzuki gs450L. I have taken apart a lot of my engine, and my haynes repair manual says that I should polish the piston for it won't pick up carbon fouling and stuff as quickly. What kind of metal polish should I purchase? And what kind of polish would I use on the outside of the engine components? Like the fins. What kind of polish should I get to polish my piston?
For the piston it isn't exactly a metal polish you should be seeking but rather a series of cleaning-polishing brushes to buff the surface to a smooth metal finish.

As for exterior engine parts it's sort of the same just more difficult so if you wish to do that I suggest that a bead-blasting be done as hand-tools are labor intensive and rather ineffective.
So, were the pistons carboned up when you took it apart? If not, then don't worry about it. Carbon deposition is more often than not caused by over fueling and oil usage. Brand new pistons don't have a polished finish on the top of the piston, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you really think you need to polish the top and it is really rough, start out with some 200-220 sandpaper, then go to 400, then 600 then 800. You will definitely need to wet sand with the two latter grits. Just be sure to thoroughly clean every surface of the piston to remove any grit or polishing compound. If you don't, it'll do a number on the cylinder walls and piston skirts. What kind of polish should I get to polish my piston?
Interesting. Don't recall that in my manual, just how to remove buildup with a hardwood scraper.

Follow Bikinkawboy's advice.

I wouldn't bother trying to polish the outside, either.

The fins are hard to get between, and can be broken in an awkward moment.

The cases are clear-coated. Any polishing will have to be done repeatedly, unless you re-coat with clear.
