If it is not a military job, then do not wear the uniform. As a recruiter, I know that some employers have concerns that former military might have issues adjusting to a non-military workplace culture. (Personally, I feel that the military experience is an asset--I feel it is more likely that they are timely and reliable).
If you wear the uniform to a non-military interview, they might think that you're having trouble letting go of the military.
I'd wear dress slacks and a dress shirt. Maybe a tie....

If you are no longer in the military it would be inappropriate to wear your uniform under those circumstances. To a military type gathering (VFW or funeral of a fellow soldier) then yes, job interview no.

How hard is it to be a military girlfriend?
I have been with my boyfriend for 3 years now, he is joining the navy to be a corpsman. Im pretty sad about it, we have been together almost every single day since we got together. We do have plans to get married in a few years (just to make sure long distance will work for us) How difficult is it to maintain a long distance relationship with someone in the military and what is the best way to let him know you support him in every way. If you have ever been in the military what was the best thing to hear or get from your sweetie back home? Military spouses are the glue that hold the military together. They have to go thru long periods of being with out their loved ones, but as the old saying goes, they keep the home fires burning. Its not an easy life being a military spouse, but its a good one. As for the long distance, If the relations ship is strong, the it will survive. I have been away for a year at a time, we are able to communicate on a regular basis, plus there is great support systems in the service. Wives get together and support them selves and there is good websites that you can utilize as well. It will work, but you both have to make it work.. You will be fine if you have faith and good friends.

It's not hard if you're adaptable and loyal and can trust your partner. Likewise, if you are those things, especially the loyal and trusting part, those are some of the best ways to show your support for your service-member. When they know you're okay, even if they're gone, and they know that you're not screwing around, they can focus more on their jobs and doing their best. Showing support takes a lot more than sticking a ribbon magnet to your car.
If you're used to him being around constantly, you're bound to have some adjustment issues, but if you (both) care enough, you'll get through it.
My husband and I just had our 6th anniversary in August and he'll hit his 7 year mark in the Army in March. It hasn't exactly been a pleasure cruise, that's for sure, but you learn to go with it and to change where needed.
it is hard,, because there alot of family separations involved and alot of moving a deploying.
thankfully the military have personnel that will help family members as much as they can go through deployments and family separations.
i am currently in the military with my girlfriend of a little over 4 years living in another state that is not nearby. IF WE can stay together this long without seeing each other make it through 3 deployments. I honestly think if the 2 of you really want to be with one another it will work

What I can tell you is that this decision is a good one over all. If you are planning to get married, the military lifestyle provides great stability, the pay is not as good as one would get on the outside, money wise, but the Medical benefits are excellent. the money gets better as time goes on.Military spouses are the glue that hold the military together. The Navy also has a tradition and history that supports the sort of long-distance, single-command, no-higher support that was common in the pre-instant communications Navy, and will likely be the norm in a space-based force.

I'm pretty sure everyone has seen a sci-fi movie or read a book where there vessels in space designed for war in space and they are most commonly under the United States Navy simply because the space "ships" have a lot in common with Naval Ships on the ocean. But isn't the Airforce the branch in control of space warfare? Our consensus is that it will be a Navy-style force, maybe not part of the Navy, but one organized as a naval force.
The Navy comes with a doctrine that, with modifications for whatever craft will be used, already supports what we think of as space-based operations.
The Navy also has a tradition and history that supports the sort of long-distance, single-command, no-higher support that was common in the pre-instant communications Navy, and will likely be the norm in a space-based force.

I'm trying to write a story, and I'm wondering what happens when the US military organizes a special "snatch and grab" operation with say navy seals, but something goes wrong and the unit is trapped in the other country? If they're captured, then they'll probably get questioned (thoroughly), tortured, tried for being in their country illegally, trying to kidnap one of their citizens, etc, etc etc...

Of course, they can also try to do a prisoner exchange (if the US is willing to negotiate)...but usually, something like this is disavowed and so there would be no prisoner exchange since they won't want to admit they had people in that country doing bad things...

Passport and citizenship for germany with a Military discharge?
I am planning to move permanently to Germany when I get out of the military, my question is... Will I be able to apply for a US passport and for german citizenship with a "other than honorable" discharge from the US military?

Irish immigrants were taken straight off the boats into the Union Army; back in those days Ellis Island was used to quarantine sick immigrants other then that anyone who set foot on our shores was a landed immigrant; we didn't have an INS or any kind of Bureaucracy established for "Immigration". Everyone was pretty much welcome here; but the immigrants did bring disease and crime with them and they also clung on to their cultural customs. The established Americans disliked the immigrants immensely, just like they do today; but the politicians loved them. The Irish set up a political spoils system that peaked under the mayoral reign of "Boss Tweed". The immigrants were absorbed into the police force as well as the military and they gained a lot of political power. Civil service jobs were doled out to friends; the rest is history and history repeats itself. The people that control the military have ultimate power because they have the the power of life and death. Are you sure that you want to put that kind of power in the hands of felons and illegal immigrants?
If they are criminals they should automatically get deported. If they are law abiding (w/the exception of them being here illegally) I think the option should be given. If they choose not to serve in the military or be a productive member of society, they should be deported too.
I work in military recruiting and we do have many illegal aliens/non-green card holders that come by to see if they can sign up. Of course we have to turn them away since you have to be a resident alien or a U.S citizen in order to serve in the military.
If they want to volunteer, I don't see the problem. Not all illegal aliens have ties to their country. The majority of them have been here for several generations and some have been in the states as early as their first memory, the only thing that stops them from being "American" is their birth certificate. It's the best way to show their allegiance to this country.

Why is the Russian military considered one of the best in the world?
Its reasonably big. But most of the troops are weak farm boys drawn in by the draft. The technology is 20 years behind the times. Does the russian military excel in some area? I myself am of Russian descent so you can trust my words. The Russian army is considered to be poorly equipped and unreasonably trained. The Russians do excel in anti-aircraft systems but with the introduction of the newer stealth jet fighters, their strong point is being quickly diminished. I live on a miliotary post and have a military doctor. I already have a csection scar from a previose birth(done by civilian doctor) and it is low transverse. I am terified of having to have a lateral incision. I am 33 weeks pregnant, if they do lateral incisions do I still have a choice to switch to a civilain facility and be covered by tricare prime? Try teacher,biologist and things like that. If you want to serve the country, and want to teach, you don't have to work for the Department of Defense. I was wondering I dont know about you but i keep hearing about imminent collapse all the time on the news i was wondering what would the military do? If it did happen, an American collapse probably wouldn't be a much different to the Soviet one: once people stop getting paid, the command structure begins to slowly but surely unravel.
Even though the US considers itself somehow "different", the simple truth is that Americans get hungry just as quickly as Russians do. And hungry people don't care much for ideals and principles... or orders. They seek food whatever way they can, whether that be stealing it by force of arms, or selling what they have (weapons) to get hard currency.
As for those overseas, any based in a friendly country would likely receive assistance from that country, even if it be only keeping them fed. (But then, an American collapse would likely precipitate crises among close allies such as the European Union, so assistance might not be absolutely guaranteed. They could be too swamped with their own problems.)

I am not entirely happy with my job as an aerospace engineer in the space launch industry. I am married, make 64K and think it is still not enough to support my wife and I. Is it possible to join the military on the side and make a little extra money while I work fulltime here at my job. I don't think my boss would let me take time off for boot camp...Can I join the military while being a full-time employee at a defense contractor?This is tough...as a defense contractor, you would have to get permission for any secondary job to be sure there is no conflict or security issues. If they approve, you could do reserve or gaurd...your boss would have no choice but to let you go for training and drills. BUT you could be deployed and if that happens you will not be getting paid from your civilian job (although they have to keep it for you once you return) and that would mean a signifigant drop in income most likely. My mom wants to send me to military school because of my poor grades and non-disciplinary personality. She thinks that military school will discipline me to be better. I see photos of Marines and Soldiers who have Trijicon ACOG's while others just have iron sights? What determins what Optics you get on your rifle? YES, they are great to have and IF used. They increase your chance of hitting your target WHEN you are aiming at the target. Often in urban and countering an ambush REFLEXIVE fire is what either kills the enemy or gets their heads down. I personally shoot iron sights but use my scope (4 power on an adapter attached to the carrying handle) for scanning and intimidation. I also have never found the CCO / red dot (M-68) to be worth the cost. I just go front sight post / waistline to line up a snap shot in close quarters. The PEQ-2 and PEQ-4 are must haves for night reflexive fire. In an OP at night then I'd mount a PAS-13(L) in place of my carrying handle / scope.

Why does the Military not force Reservist to pay Child Support?
This is about Military Reservist only, to pay child support. How do I go about getting the Reservist command to see to the Military Reservist to pay his full child support, he has a civilian job. He will not turn in where he is working. Is there any way through the military to find out where the person is working? The command will only get involved when is goes Active Duty, and not when he is Reservist only. How can I get into shape for military boot camp?
My biggest goal is to join the military in the next year or so. I am also one of the most inactive people I know. I have never enjoyed running (gym class takes the fun out of it) and I have absolutely zero endurance. Not exactly military material. Does anybody have any suggestions of what I could do to get into shape? I know that I have to practice running, sit-ups, push-ups and pull-ups, but I'm afraid that I'll push myself too hard too fast. How can I work-out in moderation but still be effective enough to make it through boot camp? Geez you make it EZ until the JarHead comment! No offense, former squid and out of shape when I decided to join for college money. Here is how my dad laid this down to me when I told him I was going to Enlist:
1.) Start running, don't stop. When you run your goal is weekly, not daily weekly, it will help you rest up as you get caught up. No, I don't mean run once a week, you run twice a day. Morning %26amp; night. The standard military Fit test is 1.5 miles. Trust me, boot camp is way over that daily so just start there. OK, ou start Sunday. Morning 1.5 miles drive it off in your car, a 2 mile course. Start and jog on a slow jog as far as you can go the morning mark a visual with where you had to stop jogging. Don't STOP you now walk as fast as you can, this is much harder than jogging, but if you want it, you gotta do this I'll tell you why in a minute. After you feel walked rested enough visual mark your start and start jogging again. Hopefully you make it the 1.5 miles jogging into 3 sections that first week. That last 1/2 mile every time, regardless you walk it at a slower walk pace to cool down or your going to have all kinds of spasms. that night same thing. Contnue thru to Saturday paying special note to how you feel a little more rested at your stopping points.
Week #2 Warm up in your garage or carport. Anywhere but around people - this is you and you want it with no smart talk form anyone. warm up with 25 Push Ups and 15 Squat Thrusts (up downs if you remember from gym downhands on deck 2, legs straight back 3, legs back up and 4 stand up. then jog. This is week 2 you need to push it to eliminate first stopping point and carry all the way to the second. Do this all the way thru to Saturday.
Week #3 warm up add 5 more push ups %26amp; squat thrusts keep your stops the same but that last start up from your second stop sprint to the 1.5 mile marlk.
Week #4 warm up the same jog and eliminate all the stops, no sprinting this week just make it thru after cool down find a spot for pull ups. This is the hardetst thing about boot camp especially for jarheads. I think they have to do zillions, its all the "This is my rifle this is my gun (grabbing little junior) that they do.
At this point you can join a Gym. If you have weight to lose you might employ a plastic bag to the jogging. At the Gym go for endurance on the Fitness Equipment and don't need free weights you can do that after boot camp. You need endurance.
One of these weeks buy work boots itf you dont have them and walk as fast as you can the entire 1.5 miles. Your shins will feel like razors wanting to cut themselves out of your leg. Welcome to shin splints. All I can say is jog jog jog. Nothing you can do will prepare you for that but they go away after week 5.
My dad was the Command Seagrant Major of a major military base in Texas. He did this for a living and it worked quite well.
I am no Dr and you need to get checked out by one before you put yourself thru this. but thats a no cost easy way to do it and if the gym is not of interest to you (I didn't do it) do chin ups in the garage and start doing sit ups and elastic band resistance exercise. It will work for virtually free. When you get out, if you make it, remember how hard it was to get there and dont let yourself go - its a lot harder to do this when your 42!!!

I think your first step has to be to change your mental attitude! You need to focus on your goal - being physically fit enough to complete the training to enter the Marine Corps. Consider joining a gym - meet with a personal trainer and explain your goals. He or she should be able to assess your current level of fitness and set up a training plan to help you improve it.
Also, think about finding a training buddy: craigslist, meetin, meetup and similar networking sites might be useful to find someone in your area with similar goals and/or who is willing to work with you. first of all, i commend you... marines are hot lol... but let's get to the point! it's hard to get over that exercise hump! but the best thing for it is to see what how much you can do now and do that for about a week... like 20 sit-ups and 10 push-ups a night or something then increase it by 5 or 10 the next week... pretty soon you're high up there... if you really wanna go hard increase it each 3 days... good luck! ;-)

Start walking fast now and built up to a 15 minute one mile run. You'll be doing a lot of that in Boot Camp. Start slow 1/2 hour to one hour. Lift 10 lbs weight afterward and just keep doing that...you can do it. Also, eat pasta...you'll feel better when running. Breathe properly while running too.

BESIDES military academies. And not ROTC either, I already know about that. Classes that require to observe, evaluate what you see, and to derive sound conclusions. Classes that present concrete problems and require you to apply hard, fixed, invariable rules to reach discrete solutions.
Those preclude liberal arts stuff like history. They also preclude the social sciences (so-called). They preclude any study that presents problems with multiple solutions, the merits of which can be debated. They preclude any study that is based solely on memory and recall.
The Navy looks favorably on degrees in Math and the "hard sciences" (like physics or chemistry). The military doesn't have a crying need for mathematicians, physicists, or chemists. But it needs leaders who can reason abstractly and who can come up with answers that are not open to debate, but are right (or wrong) based solely on logic applied to the evidence available. It needs leaders who can think outside the box... beyond what they've learned. I don't know what the other branches prefer, but I suspect their interests are similar, and for the same reasons.
Will a branch look at a candidate with a degree in psychology, library science, English, art, political science, or history? I don't know. But while those candidates are playing around with theories and facts and figures they've memorized from texts, the war rages on. The mathematician observes the situation, performs a situational analysis, maybe consults briefly with experts (guys with experience handling the kind of problem he faces), weighs all the data, and makes a decision.

If you're thinking about classes that'll teach you what to do when, you really don't want them. No two battles are the same. There's no "step-by-step" method of winning... anything. You'll see guys who've become great leaders because they figured out how to get the best out of their men, how to do more with less, how to use what they had to the best advantage, how to figure out their enemy's weakness and how to exploit it. That's what tactics and strategies instruction is supposed to teach.
You'll learn about how a handful of Greeks held off thousands of Persians. If you study what they did, all you're going to know is how to cope with a whole lot of Persians stuck between ocean and mountain armed only with arrows and spears. But if you learn your lesson well, you'll learn that you take into account the lay of the battlefield, the problems of maneuvering a large number of soldiers in a small area without adequate communications (they didn't have very good radios 450 BC). It was a cool story... if that's what your interested in. It was a loss for the Greeks, although the delaying action paved the way for eventual victory. And it tells you exactly what to do if you have a few hundred Greek soldiers being approached down a narrow beach by thousands of Persians... as long as the Persians haven't read the same account of history... if that's what you want.

But in the decade in which I was in command of guys in the field, and the years I spent in the Pentagon, I never wondered what Patton or Cornwallis, or Grant, or Eisenhower, or MacArthur would have done in a situation. I figured out what I had to work with and how best to employ those resources.

A retired Admiral said that the Regs were written for "left-handed swab handles" (feckless fools) who wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't written down for them somewhere. Learn to think. What personal sacrifices do people make by joining the Military?
Some aspects of this question are pretty obvious, but for people who are actually in the Military, which of your own freedoms have you given up for others?What do people sacrifice by joining the Military?Friends, family, the bands I was in, family a second time, the ability to take a week off if I wanted to, the choice of where to live, sleep and the inability to quit when I don't like it.
But, to be honest, it's all been worth it. I mean, other than those things listed above, it's really worth it. You can't ask for a better thing to do with your life. What do people sacrifice by joining the Military?
I personally gave up the independence of living in my own apartment. I also haven't seen my dog or hometown in 2 years (haven't been able to take more than 2 days leave at a time; my field is almost critically manned). I broke up with my long-time boyfriend, who I might very well have married. For 6.5 weeks of Basic, and then 28 days of tech school, I essentially gave up my right to privacy. I also don't have the right to choose where I want to live and when, or whether, I want to move. I don't have the ability to just hand in my two weeks' notice, either.
I have a very dear friend who broke up with the love of his life because he wasn't going to see her for 2 years (OCS, then training, then 15 month deployment). 13 months later, he's still upset about it and misses her terribly; she's still a bit of a wreck too.
In the end, though, it's worth it. Everything. I love waking up in the morning and knowing that my sacrifice makes it possible for my loved ones to enjoy their freedom. I love the life I have built for myself. I love what I do; I love that I'm getting my Bachelor's degree for free right now. I love being in a combat zone and helping Soldiers and Marines and Airmen and Sailors and Guardsmen recover from attacks (I'm a medic). I love the Airmen I serve with; they're the best friends I've ever had. I love that when I look at an American flag, I feel the most powerful swell of pride and love. I love knowing that my grandchildren will be free, due in part to my service.What do people sacrifice by joining the Military?I am not in the military but my husband is and we have had to sacrifice so much. We have been together for 10 and 1/2 years now. When we got together I was only 15 and he was 18 just joined the service. So from my 10th grade year in highschool until I got out and we got married (1 month after I graduated) we missed out on homecomings, proms the normal life of a teenager. Than we tried for 5 years to have a baby and when we finally got pregnant 2 months later he came down on orders for Iraq. He missed 6 months of my pregnancy due to leaving and being in the field. Than he missed our daughter's birth and got to meet her when she was 2 and 1.2 months. But than left again until she was 11 months old. That was very hard and still hard to deal with because all of the firsts of everything he missed. We just now had our son and he did get to see him born but left for his 2nd deployment to Iraq and its been very hard but luckily just got home a week ago. So many people take there freedom for granted because they forget. My little brother once said if people have to give up something that was important to them like sacrifice there cell phones everyday than they would just see a taste of what our Men and Woman in uniform have to go threw and there families.
My husband was in the Army, and I am joining the Air Force soon. I think that the biggest sacrifice is time away from your family. My husband deployed when my son was only 3 months old, and didn't come back till he was almost 2. He missed the first time he crawled, walked, and talked. I sent him video tape of everything, but it's not the same. For single people I don't know if Family is the biggest sacrifice. I guess it depends on how close they are with their family. I personally gave up the independence of living in my own apartment. I also haven't seen my dog or hometown in 2 years (haven't been able to take more than 2 days leave at a time; my field is almost critically manned). I broke up with my long-time boyfriend, who I might very well have married. For 6.5 weeks of Basic, and then 28 days of tech school, I essentially gave up my right to privacy. I also don't have the right to choose where I want to live and when, or whether, I want to move. I don't have the ability to just hand in my two weeks' notice, either.
I have a very dear friend who broke up with the love of his life because he wasn't going to see her for 2 years (OCS, then training, then 15 month deployment). 13 months later, he's still upset about it and misses her terribly; she's still a bit of a wreck too.
In the end, though, it's worth it. Everything. I love waking up in the morning and knowing that my sacrifice makes it possible for my loved ones to enjoy their freedom. I love the life I have built for myself. I love what I do; I love that I'm getting my Bachelor's degree for free right now. I love being in a combat zone and helping Soldiers and Marines and Airmen and Sailors and Guardsmen recover from attacks (I'm a medic). I love the Airmen I serve with; they're the best friends I've ever had. I love that when I look at an American flag, I feel the most powerful swell of pride and love. I love knowing that my grandchildren will be free, due in part to my service.What do people sacrifice by joining the Military?I am not in the military but my husband is and we have had to sacrifice so much. We have been together for 10 and 1/2 years now. When we got together I was only 15 and he was 18 just joined the service. So from my 10th grade year in highschool until I got out and we got married (1 month after I graduated) we missed out on homecomings, proms the normal life of a teenager. Than we tried for 5 years to have a baby and when we finally got pregnant 2 months later he came down on orders for Iraq. He missed 6 months of my pregnancy due to leaving and being in the field. Than he missed our daughter's birth and got to meet her when she was 2 and 1.2 months. But than left again until she was 11 months old. That was very hard and still hard to deal with because all of the firsts of everything he missed. We just now had our son and he did get to see him born but left for his 2nd deployment to Iraq and its been very hard but luckily just got home a week ago. So many people take there freedom for granted because they forget. My little brother once said if people have to give up something that was important to them like sacrifice there cell phones everyday than they would just see a taste of what our Men and Woman in uniform have to go threw and there families.

My husband deployed when my son was only 3 months old, and didn't come back till he was almost 2. He missed the first time he crawled, walked, and talked. I am not talking go int to Iraq but doing public service works. For example, my son is going to college for nursing, he could work 2 years at a military hospital or veterans home. Get some experience and see if that was the career for him. I think it would give more of our youth pride in their country and for themselves. You serve your time based on your enlistment contract not what job you have. These police are not Marines but work the same jobs and shifts as the MP's currently, I believe the ultimate goal is to replace the MP's on base entirely eventually. The civilians don't deploy, they work strictly at the base they are hired for, and won't get transferred unless they apply for it. Almost all recruiters are military and the scant few who are civilian contractors are usually prior service. They can tell you about their experiences. To this day, I have never told anybody they won't deploy, I have never told anybody they are guaranteed a bonus, and I never told anybody that they will never have a bad day in the Army. The fact is that you can have a bad day no matter what you do. I tell facts and 99% of recruiters will do the same.
If you want to join but don't believe the recruiters then do your research. Google is a great tool. At the same time, learn how to sort legitimate information from the BS. Half of the answers for questions like this are usually from either point-gainers who give a stupid answer and move to another category or anti-military trolls. Bombed up aircraft armed up aircraft worked on Spitfires To F18A
from Lancaster's to FIII both models Australian and USN
i also washed Aircraft towed aircraft polished aircraft Refueled Guarded them Dug them out of the Mud
washed them out after some idiot chucked up in a pressurised Cockpit
did Guard of honor parades Funeral parades and memorial parades
and several week end Duties
yes in my teens like all learners i made a few stuff ups and received Extra duties time in the Kitchen on pots and pans
in Malaysia and Borneo in the sixties pealing potatoes unloading supplies from Argosy's Hastings Beverley's etc in 38 degree temps with about 90% humidity
or bombing up Canberra's and doing guard duty in Germany when the Berlin wall went up in - 27 degrees
and of course on deployment in an emergency living in tents with makeshift Showers tin cans for Toilets No air conditioning and meals subsidised with 85 % ration packs
all this is the truth Bad well I spent 38 years in 2 Air Forces until i was Compulsory Retired

Active duty is much more demanding and they have much control over your life. You're a soldier 24/7, on post or off, weekends, holidays, sleeping, eating, being with your significant other. Basic Training and AIT together will eat up at least 4 months if not longer. If you get in trouble with the law in the civilian world you'll get punished again my your unit. NG or Active there might be a good change you'll deploy somewhere. There are strict rules and regulations you have to follow and rank structure is very important.
The military is not all bad. Unfortunately, when one of us does something stupid, (like hitting his g/f) we all look like that. There are more perks, at the cost of sacrifice. The army values come into play and all around it has changed my life in ways I can't describe. Active duty soldiers are more fit b/c we PT Mon through Fri. We get all this cool equipment to shoot, use, drive, ride, etc. The uniform kicks and random people will just start talking to you. You get to do thins that most people never get a chance to do or see. CNN and those shows only show what will get them ratings.
Basic really sucks of course, AIT get's better, and your first unit will be somewhat better. Once you've been at your unit a few months things will have fallen into place. There's much more to know about the "real" army than the one being fed to coerce people into joining. Recruiters get paid bonuses for every soldier that completes basic and AIT. I worked with a guy that changed over to being a recruiter and I've been messed over by one. Good luck with what this is taking you.

there is an outstanding individual I have. He is excellent in work, and is destined to be a great leader. His fiance smokes marijuana. What (if anything) can happen to the person in the military if something happens (like he gets married, and then his wife is caught doing the drugs by authority). It depends on the situation. If the couple were living on base/post and the spouse was found with the substance coming onto/off base or in a search of any type, then yes, it would definitely affect that person's career!
If a problem arises where the person using the substance is causing financial or legal issues because of the problem, then that will also cause problems for the military member.

Well, first I would try to be a great husband and help her in any way I can to make her stop, it can kill and cause pain to say the least.
If that fails, I would leave her. It's not worth it. It will make her think about it more and hopefully get off of it.

It depends on the situation. If the couple were living on base/post and the spouse was found with the substance coming onto/off base or in a search of any type, then yes, it would definitely affect that person's career!
If a problem arises where the person using the substance is causing financial or legal issues because of the problem, then that will also cause problems for the military member.
