What happens to a military special operations unit when trapped out of country?

I'm trying to write a story, and I'm wondering what happens when the US military organizes a special "snatch and grab" operation with say navy seals, but something goes wrong and the unit is trapped in the other country? What would the country's government do?What happens to a military special operations unit when trapped out of country? The country they're in would probably try to capture or kill them...

If they're captured, then they'll probably get questioned (thoroughly), tortured, tried for being in their country illegally, trying to kidnap one of their citizens, etc, etc etc...

The verdict usually ends up being guilty with either execution or hard labor for a long time in prison...

Of course, they can also try to do a prisoner exchange (if the US is willing to negotiate)...but usually, something like this is disavowed and so there would be no prisoner exchange since they won't want to admit they had people in that country doing bad things...

Just a guess, since this is "hypothetical" in nature...What happens to a military special operations unit when trapped out of country?
No way to know.

The country's leadership may order the foreigners eradicated by its military forces.

The local military commander may or may not cooperate depending on his own convictions.

The unit will perform its own evade and escape plan... in case evac don't come.

For a fictional scenario, see Tom Clancy's "Clear and Present Danger". A covert unit sent into Colombia to hit drug lords and drug factories was left behind when they became too "hot" to handle.

And in a certain way, the Mogadishu "Blackhawk Down" scenario is similar. Forces cut of in "foreign" territory, surrounded by bad guys, and rescue missions must be mounted.

How the heck should we know? It's your story. You didn't tell us what this fictional country's policy is, so we can't possibly tell you how they'd implement it. If the other country is the UK, they'd probably say, "Terribly sorry, govner, let Special Branch snatch your bravo then we can extradite them." If it's Somalia, they'd dismember them. What happens to a military special operations unit when trapped out of country?
Usually in those situations the Air Force has a Special Operations team who Specializes in the field of search and rescue of those behind the enemy line.

Being a Special Ops, they can survive any terrain and situations because they are trained to do so. So they can live it out however long it takes for the Air Force or other Spec ops of the military to search and rescue them. What happens to a military special operations unit when trapped out of country?Haven't you seen any reruns of the old Mission:Impossible television series from the 1960s?"If any of your IM force is caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions."
