How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life?

Let's say the chance of meeting a sudden death in civilian life is 1/100. What would be the chance in US military life? How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life? You are overstating your odds of getting killed in civilian life. Probably closer to 1 - 10,000 based upon your criteria)

There are a total of 1,083,027 active duty military personal in the US combined forces. There have been an average of 500 combat deaths per year since we began the Afghan war in 2001. There have also been an average of 3500 non lethal casualities each year from those same conflicts. So, the odds for an average military personal dying in those conflicts are 1 - 2,000. However, since only about 25% of the military is actually involved in those wars, the odds for death for military person stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan is closer to 1- 500. Furthermore, there are sever at-risk positions where the death rate is probably closer to 1-100

The odds on getting wounded are a disturbing 1-10 for the 25% of the military personal stationed in conflict. How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life?
Depends where you live. If you live in Bronx, Chicago, South LA, Compton..etc, you're chances of getting killed are very high...just by walking the streets! Heck, you have a greater chance of getting killed in any of these cities than in Iraq or Afghanistan, statistically.

Depends on your Military Occupational Specialty. If you're an Explosives Ordinance Disposal technician, then you have a high chance. If you're a mechanic, then you have a low chance. It's all dependent. How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life?Using various current statistics (which would of course include those who have died in the Middle East), about 6 in 1,000. This doesn't include accidents and sickness.

Your chances of being killed in your civilian life would depend on what your civilian life is like. If you stay at home and watch TV all day, your chances would of course be less than someone who commutes every day, or someone who engages in dangerous occupations or who lives in a high-risk area.
The chances of being killed in the military depend on a variety of factors. For instance, what is your military rating(are you directly involved in combat or not), what is your rank(are you an officer or an enlisted member).

There are jobs and hobbies that place people in hazardous positions as well: fire fighter, police officer, airplane pilot, etc.

If you're considering entering the military and serving your country I congratulate you and I wish you much luck...listen to your superior officers, do what you are told and you should be fine. How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life? The us military is fairly safe the us is not known for having banzi charges in lines to a enemy strong hold. Since every life is valued in the military plans are well thought out to make casualties as low as possible. In most cases i would say the chances are at worse 1/95 compared to ur data. Now this is considering todays data and you join the military not the navy or air force but lets say ww3 breaks out well then yes that 1/95 will be more like 1/5 but honestly i dont see that happening any time soonHow much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life?
i would say it is about the same. as a soldier stationed in washington state (lets say for no other reason than i picked there) has a high chance of living longer than a civilian redneck in south central LA.

you hear on the news "X amount of soldiers died this week in IRAQ,.. " but more people died in chicago last night.

grant it soldiers do dangerous jobs but they are also trained and wear protective gear.
Well...since BOZO is ignoring the military and they are in severe danger...I would say MILITARY. when you don't have a commanding leader that gives a crap about you and doesn't support you...but goes to COPENHAGEN to talk about GAMES....it is sad.

NEVER in history has a government ignored their military. BUT TODAY WE HAVE IT! He said he would deal with them when he comes home...HUH? Where are his priorities? WITH THE OLYMPICS and not the military! WOW.... he calls them selfish and ignores the PLEAS for HELP! WHO IS THIS MAN?

Even Saddam Hussein made sure his military had support and what they needed! BOZO can't even do THAT and that makes him worse than Saddam!

WHEN does a leader ignore his military during WAR TIME? IS HE SANE??????How much greater is the chance of getting killed in US military life than in civilian life?
As a grunt thats been to iraq, I can say I honestly felt safer over there. Its the fact that you have more control of situations and know whos around you and who you're working with. In the civilian world no one gives a crap and they cover themselves and leave others out to dry.
.01/100

You have more risks in the civilian world
It depends upon you occupation in the civilian world. While there are dangers associated with military service, we still lose more lives to auto accident than to combat action.
it is actually SAFER to be in the military on the front lines, than to be in most large cities
About the same. Death can strike at anytime.
Depends on the branch. air force is minimal but army and marines are higher
