When did the US military begin allowing non-citizens to join the armed forces?

You know how now if you're from a different country you can join the military and later become a citizen? Well when did this begin? When did the US military begin allowing non-citizens to join the armed forces? The US Army is the child of the Continental Army created by The Continental Congress on 14 June 1775. That is the date non citizens began to join. The exact details have changed over the years. Non citizens are also subject to being drafted. 3 of us drove to Great Britain from Germany and stayed with my buddies uncle in Leeds. He had lived in the US in the early 60. He got drafted into the Army and then joined the Marines as he preferred to be a Marine over a Soldier.

What I am not clear on is the date that the concept of being a permanent resident took place. Now you have to be a permanent residentWhen did the US military begin allowing non-citizens to join the armed forces?A couple hundred years ago. When did the US military begin allowing non-citizens to join the armed forces?Think about 200 years ago...When did the US military begin allowing non-citizens to join the armed forces?
That's been a policy dating to and perhaps before the Civil War.
