I'm currently attempting to do a repair on the lock cylinder of my car, but I've come across what appears to be an electromagnetic actuator with a little pin that presses into a black pad on the aluminum ignition assembly. This is the first time I've come across a part on my car that I cannot for the life of me figure out what it's for. Since I'm doing repairs near it, I would like to know what it is. I also can't find it mentioned in my haynes manual.Attached to my car's ignition is a little actuator. What is it for?
might help to give year/make/model of car ....
