91 Crx Basic Tuner Questions?

So I am planning on buying a used '91 Honda Crx Si as my first car. I have about $900 together, but my goal it to have at least a 2 grand before buying. I can get the car in pretty god condition for a grand, but I want to upgrade it a bit.

Firstly, I am going to pick up a Haynes Manual, and go through it learning how to do the basic maintenance on the car. What would I need besides the manual to get this done? What tools should I have to be doing basic repairs on a car?

I am also planning on installing lowering springs, to improve the look and handling of the car. Is this an easy install or one that I would have to take to the shop to get done? How much can I expect to pay for good springs and install?

I was also planning on getting a cold air intake, but have been convinced it is a very pointless mod. Are there any other cheap (under $300), simple mods that improve the horsepower, torque, or all around performance of the car?

And one last question.

I love the looks of the CRX, but it would also be nice to be able to have more than 1 other passenger. I understand that the 91 Honda Civic EF Hatches have the same engine andbasic components as the crx, but another row of seating. What I was wondering is will a Civic hatch be as fast/ fun to drive as a Crx would be?

Ok none of these people seemed to have actually OWNED a crx so let me help you out. I have a 1990 crx as my first car and they are so easy to learn to work on. A tip however is that you dont really NEED the 91 Si the only diff between that and the years 88 to 91 is minor things like the shape of the gauge cluster, seatbelt mounting spots, corner and taillights etc.The major thing is only 91 si's had rear disk brakes, but you can easily put rear disks off 90-93 integra's on any year crx so dont worry. About the power though, dont buy a "ram air" pipe for the engine, it only sucks in hot hair from the bay and isnt worth the "cool" sound, look on honda forums for a cheap used cold air intake like aem but make sure you get a bypass valve so u dont suck in water. For springs I would again look on honda forums for people selling old sets of good springs and shocks that they dont want since they bought coilovers, many times you can get them for really cheap. And as for the passengers, i liked it this way, what better excuse to get your guy friends to drive themselves and the lady all alone than to say "sorry guys only got two seats, one for me one for her" haha. The civic hatch backseat will NOT fit, crx's in japan DID come with a small backseat but these are so uncommon and expensive it's not worth getting and using too much. And for tools just a basic jack, and wrench set, most every bolt on the crx is between 8-10-12 and 15 mm so a cheap metric socket set will do fine. Any questions feel free to message me i'm always willing to help out a crx lover. Hope this helps! :)91 Crx Basic Tuner Questions?
Most people swap motors(integra, accord) into the CRX or EF to get more performance. Cost can be from $1500 to $6000.

The CRX is lighter so it'll be faster.

One thing you have to remember. They are easily be stolen, so didn't buy stolen parts, because karma can be a bitc3.91 Crx Basic Tuner Questions?
There is a HUGE aftermarket for these cars, so just search and you'll be able to find any part you need. If you want more power the three easiest upgrades are intake, header, and exhaust. Each mod by itself won't give you much gains so do all three. An air/fuel controller, and vtec controller would help too. I'm assuming this is to be done on a small budget? Springs or coil overs can be found cheap, along with the other parts. Please don't cut your springs! It's not the 90's anymore. Keep in mind you do GET what you pay for. There is a reason that knock offs are cheap. When you buy expensive performance parts your paying for the R %26amp; D the company spent on making that part perform so well.
you drop any v6 fwd motor in that little thing and call it a day. being lighter well help you alot but without torque to back it up i wouldnt even consider it to be a threat, just a dumb kid who knows nothing.

your first mistake is asking what to do to increase power, and what tools you need. the better the car can breathe longer it will last and more power. adding a bodykit and a wing combo is doing nothing but hurting your loosy performance and looking goofy.

they are no cheap mods other than a air filter. you will need helluva lot of money and time to get a good running machine.

since its your first car you will learn the hard way hondas arent fast. nor will they ever be. i got spanked the other night by a civic, i just laughed my *** off knowing i kept up with him and he spent 4x more than i did including the cost of my car.

throw on a cai and exhaust, the sound will make you think your going even faster or accelerating faster, but the boys will smoke you in a heart beat, you may get the take off but by the mid of 1st gear they are gonna past you like you was standing still.

only advice i can help you is.. swap for a 3.4 alero, grand am,prix motor and either turbo it or twin charge it. you will be off on a good start, 170 to 200 horsepower and 200 torque from the 3.4/8 motors.

other than that your gonna end up putting 20 grand in it and lose to a stock v6/v8.
