How do you check the camshaft sensor on 96 BMW 740il?

Is there a way to check if the camshaft sensor is correct? How do you change it? Do you know how I can get a repair manual for this car? Haynes does not sell one.How do you check the camshaft sensor on 96 BMW 740il?
If the camshaft sensor sets a fault technicians simply replace it without much ado. Provided the sensor is attached and gets power/ground/signal then it is a waste of time to check it (since it sets a fault then it is safe to assume that it is properly connected).

Checking for proper function entails the use of the oscilloscope function of a BMW GT1 or Isis machine which you certainly do not have. At the very least you should have a labscope and the knowhow to use it along with technical knowledge of the car's electronics itself.

Just replace it. It is in front of the engine near the oil filler cap and the dipstick.

I usually recommend the relevant Bentley repair manual to my friends instead of Haynes.

Google "bmw repair manuals" to start your quest. Then Bmw Bentley repair manuals.
