How easy and cheap is it to fit a new head gasket to a peugeot 306 1.9D?

RAC told me that my head gasket had blown and would cost me 拢800 to repair. I have looked on the net and can get a new head gasket for 拢25. I can buy a Haynes manual for 拢15, what else do i require, how long should it take, and how difficult is the job going to be?

Any help or advice that anyone can give would be appreciated? How easy and cheap is it to fit a new head gasket to a peugeot 306 1.9D?
You also have to look into the tools that are involved in this type of endeavor. Replacing a head gasket is not a real easy task. It can be done if one has the time and the tools to do it with. The manual will explain in detail exactly what you will need to do to replace the gasket. The most tedious part is to be careful not to warp the head while removing or replacing. The manual will give you the correct sequence for loosening and tightening the bolts. You will need a torque wrench for tightening the bolts on the head. If you have little or no mechanical experience I would suggest that you check a few places for prices and go with the cheapest price that you can get and have a professional replace the gasket. If you do decide to tackle it yourself be sure that you have a manual and pay close attention to the sequence that it gives for tightening and removing the head bolts. You will need a torque wrench and a good socket and wrench set if you attempt this yourself. Hope this helps. Have a great day.How easy and cheap is it to fit a new head gasket to a peugeot 306 1.9D?
