What can i do about my astra ?

hello i have a 99 Treg astra 1.7 TD and i love it !!! problem is on saturday it died and it hasnt wanted to start since ive checked the fuel filters and the injectors dont seem to be getting any fuel i have enquired to quite a few garages and mechanics but none seem to be interested as it would be too much work ? i dont know much about cars but i am on a steep learning curve as i would love to repair it myself but dont know where to start. Its not starting and had to be towed home from where it stopped and it hasnt started since a few people have told me it is the fuel pump or the ecu connected to it but without my haynes manual(on order) i dont know where to start. I have searched the internet since trying to find pics or even a simple explination as to how i could check if my fuel pump or ecu is actually broken without taking it to a garage as most of them are unwilling to even look at it ( one told me to bury it !!!) any help would be fab as i dont want my car to be buried!!! joolzWhat can i do about my astra ?
Hey joolz........

listen da easiest way to check ur fuel pump wud be to try and jump or kick start your car.....if it jerks when kick starting den u have no problem with the fuel pump then it is ur ecu.........u gota go throw a process of elimination......garages just plug in a computer and check your ecu.. bt if u cant check your fuel pump or ecu your self take the car to a vauxhall or opel agent and tell him your problem he will do it for without a problem dont listen to all the other garages cause half the time they dont know what they talking about...........there is another way to do it but its a real mission to strip your engine.........another easy way is to just jack up the car and check the fuel pump for leakages or blockages..........your ecu needs to be taken to an agent to be checked its a real mission to do your self as im guessing that youdont have the plugs and computer software to check the ecu.....................................鈥?i was able to help you out...........What can i do about my astra ?
Why do you think it's a fuel problem? Check for spark first. Consult a repair manual if you don't know how to do this. What can i do about my astra ?
HI to start off the first thing I would be checking is (1) the main fuse for the fuel pump,if the fuse is Ok then check the fuel pump relay, you will need a probe tester to check the fuse, and if you have some knowledge of auto electrics carry on and check the fuel pump relay with the tester.the other way to test the fuel pump relay you need to find it and get some one to turn the inj on and listen for the operation of the relay, you have to establish that the fuel pump is getting power if this is the case then trace the fuel pressure line to the fuel rail on the engine there should be a relief valve that you can remove ,then turn on the ign for 5 seconds, with out cranking the engine,if the fuel pump is operating there should be a lot of fuel flowing there,if not you have either a pump or electric problem. this would be where I would start. Good luck ASH
