VM Polo Temperamental Electric Windows?

Hi,

I've got two issues with my R Reg 1997, VW 1.6 Litre Polo.

A) The first issue started a few months ago, when the Driver side window stopped working on a day out. Coming back the window was usable again but that point onwards both the passenger window and the driver window have become temperamental. They either work or they refuse to work. When they are working and while the car is on, they continue to work either independently or together.

It has been causing me some worry because I live next to a toll motorway and need to use the window to pay the toll.

B) Another issue that has resurfaced recently is with the Stereo which plays sound on the right hand speakers. If I press the stereo facia hard on the left hand side, all the speakers become operational. But go over a bump and we are back to square one.

I think these issues are related but am open to suggestion on how to Check, Verify and Repair the problem. Haynes manual has been useless so far.

Sounds like you have a loss wire on the connector block at the back of the radio. You will need to pull the radio out from the dash and check the condition of the plastic connector block. Before you do this make sure that if the radio has a security code, you have it.

The windows sound like there is either a loss wire or more likely a bad connection. You unfortunately will have to strip out the door panel and check each and every wire. Sometimes the wire harness can become jammed in the window mechanism resulting in frayed wires.

hi,i cant see the two being related..radio fault will simply be a loose wire...now as for the windows, but its down to the switches..change with some vrom the brakers..that should sort it..VM Polo Temperamental Electric Windows?
Check wiring where it enters the door through the door pillar its probably fretted.wiring for both windows feeds to drivers switch before going to passenger switch and speaker wiring is also in the same door loom
