1998 ford contour ATF change...please answer?

ok, so last week i bought a 1998 ford contour GL so i can fix its few problems, and sell it for profit. im not the most familiar with newer fords, and this would be the first time ive worked on a contour. the car is equipped with a 2.0 liter 16 valve 4 cylinder zetec engine, and a 4 speed automatic tranny. it has about 159,000 miles. im in the process of changing all the cars fluids, and giving it a mild tune up. what i cant understand is how the automatic transmission fluid is changed. you see, im familiar with dodge auto trannies and such where all you have to do when changing the fluid is drop the pan, take the filter straight out and replace it, clean the pans gasket surface, and slap it back on with a new gasket; fill with atf. the ford contours automatic transmission has a drain plug on the bottom of it. so, basically i cant understand that theres no way of accessing a filter of any sort..do the ford auto trannies even have filters? how the heck do you get to them? also, when i read a haynes repair manual about how to do the job, it said to drain the fluid, replace drain plug, fill transmission with 4 quarts of ATF, run engine for 3-5 minutes, re-drain transmission, and then finally fill transmission with ATF to the necessary level. so, my other question is: is it absolutely necessary to drain the transmission twice? thanks everyone1998 ford contour ATF change...please answer?
I dont see a filter listed through ford or after market sites. It most likely doesnt have one. The best thing to do would be to call a ford parts department and ask them for one and see what they say. They will tell you if one exists or not and where they are installed. If its a 2 flusher, then it probably doesnt have a filter and I reccomend flushing any tranny twice, about 100 miles after doing it the first time, unless you tak the vehicle to a pro shop where they have a power flusher that removes all the fluid. When you do it at home, you dont get all the fluid out, so its best to do it twice.

i think they have a self cleaning filter. all you do is drain the fluid and add new fluid and the new fluid cleans the filter.1998 ford contour ATF change...please answer?
buy a rapair manual at the parts store. I'll tell you all you need to know, even how to drop the rear end if needed.

by draining the fluid twice you are cleaning the filter and pushing the rest of the old fluid out
