Ignition switch turns all the way?

i thought that maybe my key ignition switch was faulty so i went out and bought a new key ignition switch. replaced the old one and put everything back together the way it was before. i turned the new one and it did the same thing as the old one. now would there be something else i might have to look at in the steering column? i just know i'm at a stand still. i also bought a haynes repair manual but it doesn't give any troubleshooting ideas as to why the ignition switch would turn all the way. i have a 85 chevy k10 pickup 4wd truck. so if anyone has any answers to my problem. please feel free to email your advice.Ignition switch turns all the way?
i recomend to change the stering wheel.because the cylinder chamber is broke inside.get it from the

junk yard.Ignition switch turns all the way?
there is a gear that the key switch engages with, this is connected with a rod inside the column. look along column under dash while turning key until you find this rod. follow it until you find the "ignition switch" this is what actually turns truck on/off/start etc. usually made of plastic when they break rod doesn't engage anything so just turns freely. replace it and you are home free, may have Tamper-resistant Torques head bolts securing it in place, manual should say now that you know what you are looking for. check under "body-electrical".
